Can't unblock popups in IE 8 on Vista

I need to use a web site that uses popups. I can't get it to work properly because I can not seem to forced IE 8 on Vista to allow popups. All the settings for blocking popups are off. However, IE still puts up an alert warning bar with an option to allow the popup, and advising to turn off popup blocking. Huh??!!! I thought I did. Well, anyway, the problem is worse, because after allowing the popup, then closing the popup, javascript is completely disabled for the entire site during the session, and various buttons and whatnot no longer work. In fact, it won't pop up anything either... everything on the pages are unresponsive. Also, the status bar in IE shows a javascript error. The error only exists after this series of steps. The site works perfectly on IE 8 on Windows XP, Mac Safari, Mac and PC FireFox, and all other versions of IE.

In IE, click on Tools, go to Popup blocker and in the menu that opens, click on Popup blocker settings.

In the window that opens, enter the URL in the "Address of web site to allow," click the Close button (not the X). It should then allow popups on that site.

Alas, if this suggestion worked, but it does not. I tried all these settings options of course, but they do not change the behavior of the browser in any way. I'm trying to see if there is another setting somewhere that is trumping this one, but I sure can't find it yet.

You could also try resetting IE8 to its default. From IE's Menu, choose Tools > Internet Options and select the Advanced tab. Click the button labeled Reset near the bottom of that tab.

Resetting IE 8 fixes the problem

Thanks for this tip. Resetting to defaults in IE 8 fixed the popup blocker settings so that I can allow popups. While this worked, it also resets all the cookies, history, and other settings. Oh well...
