IE8 and Outlook Express

Installed IE8 over IE7. Since then I cannot open hyperlinks in Outlook Express. Uninstalled IE8 and IE7 would not run. Uninstalled IE7 and reinstalled. After a lengthy install and confirmation that IE7 was complete, will not run. Had to reinstall IE8 which is the only one I can run. Advice given was to repair the registry. I have used several registry cleaners but none have cured the problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem with Outlook Express?

That has most likely made the problem worse. I'd use a backup or system restore or do a fresh install to start from scratch.

System restore did not cure the problem. Reinstalled IE7 but after confirmation that it was installed, nothing happened when I tried to access it. Had to reinstall IE8 which needs lots of fixing. IE7 worked great. I would not recommend upgrading to IE8.

My System
When I installed IE8 the installation actually removed IE7. I had to download IE7 as a "file to be installed later", use "add/remove programs" to get rid of IE8, then finish installing IE7 from the download.

Son-in-law reckons there's a feature in IE8 that's the root of a lot of the "must shut down" messages. Apparently, MS wanted to be sure that all web-sites would be up to the required MS standard.

He just installed IE8 on my wife's new netbook and he set the "Compatibility View Settings" in "Tools" to "display all websites in Compatibility View". We haven't had the recurring shutdowns (yet). The netbook is running the same WinXP-SP3 and our two desk-top machines.

Copy this registry file into the notepad and save the file as links.reg
Then run the file and add the necessary information to the registry
This should fix the problem.

Copy the following from here :

This should fix the problem.

Do you mean to copy that entire list to the registry?

Last edited by rbarone; 9th September 2009 at 21:15. Reason: Registry does not accept the file "links.reg". Says it is not a script file.
