IE8 won't open

Upgraded from IE7 to IE8 on XP/SP-3. Rebooted and IE will not open.
When I right click the icon display the "OPEN Home Page" option but nothing happens when clicked.
I had success on a similar machine going from IE7 to IE8.
Suggestions?

My System

Hi skylane. Try shutting down all background programs that are running in the system tray in the taskbar and then launch IE.

When you have IE8 installed can you get it to run with no addons? (Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< Internet Explorer No-Addons). Try deleting all your browsing history as well. Click Start< Control Panel< Security Center< Internet Options. Under Browsing History click Delete and make sure all the checkboxes are checked except for preserve favorits website data and then click delete.

Let me know if there is any difference.

Thanks for replying Evan, I tried the items you suggested. Same result..When I click
"open home page" I see a momentary "hourglass" then nothing. I'll try a re-boot
tomorrow morning early and if that doesn't help...It's system restore time. (before I do that tho..I'll review the posts on regressing to IE7)

Not sure I'm following you on the right click part....

What happens when you double click on the IE icon?

I'm not sure why my replies do not appear on this thread. Anyway I have tried
every possible attempt to open IE8. I just installed it on another desktop and it works.
Time to regress.
