Problem organizing favorites

Hey guys, I'm having what I'm sure is a problem with a simple fix, and it's kind of a problem of no consequence....but, it's anoying. I'm having a problem with IE7 and the favorites drop down menu. I used to be able to open the drop down menu and left click and drag folders or invividual url's around to organize the look of the menu. I like to have all the folders grouped at the top and then to have all the individual url's listed at the bottom. Unfortunately for some reason my computer will no longer allow me to move these items. I've tried everything I can think of to do with no luck. You can't use the "organize" function because when you open this window I can't move anything until I click the move button and then a new pop up window opens that already has the folders grouped the way I like them. I don't understand why I can't simply left click and drag on the main menu anymore.....any suggestions? Thanks for the help, Brian

Do you have a few dozen favorites or a few Hundred? I forgot the number, but some where in the 600 range is the max number you can have...

I generally beat the system and group my favorites by palcing a 1_ or 2_ infront of the favorites.. Then when I right click the sort by name, my most popular 1_ are sorted to the top.

Hey Steve, thanks, but I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing. It sounds like you're talking about the favorites folder found under C/documents & settings since that's where you can click on view and then arrange icons by name. I'm talking about the favorites menu that drops down from the IE7 toolbar when you click on the star (favorites) symbol. I can arrange the items in the actual favorites folder no problem, but that doesn't effect the way they appear on the drop down menu in IE7. Like I said, I used to be able to simply left click and drag the folders or individual url's up and down the menu to where ever I wanted but for some reason (which I don't understand) that no longer works. Anyway, thanks for the reply. Brian

I was thinking about the Favorites button on the toolbar...

I can make a change on the Favorites button or the "Star" button and it affects both places...Approx how many do you have?

Hey Steve, I honestly have no idea how many bookmarks I have. It's possible there are over 600. I guess I should do some housekeeping and sort through them.....some are real old and aren't even valid links anymore. I just haven't taken the time to weed through it all. I guess I'll try paring the number down and see if that causes the click and drag function to start working in the favorites drop down menu once again.
Also I can't figure out how you're getting the "right click-sort by name" deal to work on the entire menu. I can right click on an individual folder and get the sort by name option for that folder, but I can't find any way to get this function to apply to the entire menu. There's no way in the menu to highlight all the folders and the individual (not in folders) links. And making changes to the order (appearance) in C/docs&setting/favorites folder has no effect on the appearance or the order in the drop down menu.
Anyway, thanks again for the help......I'm going to try reducing the number of bookmarks and see if that helps. Brian

The sort by name only works from the Toolbar Favorite button. Click the button - scroll to highlight a fav (not a folder) and you should see the sort option.

Hey Steve, thanks for the help. I weeded through my favorites and got rid of (archived) many of them so there were way under 600 in the menu / favorites folder. Unfortunately this still didn't fix the fact that left click and drag to organize no longer works. However I was able to finaly get the sort by name function to work, so problem solved. Again, thanks for the help. Brian
