Angry Opening web pages in new window on IE 6.0

It started about a week ago, while I wanted to open a link in a new browser window (I'm using IE 6.0).
at first, it was all ok, but then, as I mentioned above, the page would'nt load!

It also has the same problem with links within the HTML code which would suppose to be opend in a new window.

what happens is, that the new window launches up as a blank page, like always, but suddenly stops to load and the window turns out to be blank. I know it does'nt stuck because the window is still responsive and I can click stop or refresh etc.
but I cant see any content, no error message, nothing!
just a blank page, which by the way, when I started dragging it all over the screen the inside of the window "absorbed" the background off my desktop and started "scrambling" it (I sure you all know what I mean...).

So, as you can guess, it's really annoying and i'm dying to get rid of this weird thing!

By the way, I can't put my finger on any specific software the I have installed that may have affected my IE in this way or another... (eDonkey, QuickTime 5.0 Pro)

hoping to get help soon,
Thanx.

p.s.
I can really be helpfull sometimes so ask what you want...

Hi LLDJ. I've just seen a couple of places where you posted answers and can tell you are in no way a novice but since you didn't say, I have to ask about a few of the "routine" things that may cure your ills.

I don't remember seeing this particular issue before but have found that lots of the "ONE OFF" problems will go away with some system cleanup.

You don't say what OS but if other than XP, have you done a repair of IE?

Deleted all temp internet files and cookies?

Cleaned off any spyware using something like Ad-aware?

Cleaned out all temp files, wherever they may live?

If you've done all the above, describe your system a little and a few of us will start some serious searching for answers.

Guess What...

Hi newt,
Thank you for your seggestions.

I tried to do all the things you mentioned, but it did'nt help.

I havn't installed any patches or repairs into my IE.
I ran Adware and removed all the supposedly spywares.
I manually deleted all the Temp Internet files and cookies.

You asked for some system info, so here it is:

I'm running Win98 SE Hebrew Enabled On an AMD K6 450Mhz Proccesor with 64MB RAM, VIA Motherboard.
My IE version is 6.0

If you guys could help me, it will be really great because i'm just too tyred of it and sick of re-installing IE, cause it changes my entire system because of the EXPLORER.EXE file.

p.s.
don't get me wrong, I haven't re-installed it yet. I just dont wanna go thru it agian.

Thanks in advance.

No cure and yet another problem...

Hi Guys,

These words are in addition to what i have posted before.

A day or two ago, when I hit the CTRL+F (Find) I got this Error alert.

In another case, when I went into a site that pops up a window whenever you log into it, suddenly i got the blue screen, saying there is a page fault in RPCRT4.DLL.

In addition to what I have posted before (see above), this is a very strange case...

Although, for me this kind of s**t is never a surprise, for I am familiar with Microsoft products for over 6 years...

So I started to check things out. I found out that this file, RPCRT4.DLL, is called "Remote Procedure Call DLL".

Because I have no idea what this file does or does not, I decided to Uninstall IE6 by downgrading it to win98 default broswer, IE5.01.

After I finished downgrading, I ran the browser, and it did open up a new window smoothly with no problems, but whenever I hit the CRTL+F key, it gave me the same error.

I thought that if I should upgrade to IE 6.0, its system files will be reinstalled, so I installed it.

Well, guess what???

NO CHANGES AT ALL!!!

I couldn't believe it!

Do you guys have any advice?

Hope you'll find any.

Thanx.

I'm starting to be able to actually find things in the MS Knowledge base. How scary is that?

Anyway, check this out.

Mainly it says, "This issue can occur when your computer contains an incorrect or mismatched version of the Schannel.dll file." And here we all thought it had something to do with rpcrt4.dll.
