Recently IE6 has been terminating when I'm clicking through to another site. I've noticed this particularly when viewing messages form MyPoints.

I have been trying to beef up the list of 'restricted' sites, by adding the URL's of annoying pop-up ads to the restricted site list.

I'm not sure this is any type of cause & effect realtionship, but it's all I can thing that I've changed latley. I did have the w32kleg virus awile ago, but have run N2002 full system scan & use 'mailwasher' to 'clean' the mail daily. Also ad-aware is up to date & run daily.

IE6 terminated before I could post the Event

The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( Microsoft Internet Explorer ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: iexplore.exe, 6.0.2600.0, unknown, 0.0.0.0, 0432bd78.

I've noticed that this happens when I close one of the web pages to which I have 'clicked thru' from another page.

ie I llok at a page & then click an icon which opens another page. Often the subsequent page will not load & presentrs the restricted site icon on the lower margin of the page. The address of this page is NOT listed in my restricted sites. If this subsequent page does not load, then closing it can sometimes cause IE to close (with or sometimes without) the event being posted in the event log.

Right now I have a page open to my hotmail acct.
open an email & click on a link- get another page with address starting 209.185.240.250 shows the restricted icon on the lower margin of the page & unknown zone.
iT OOK A VERY LONG TIME TO TRY & LOAD & ULTIMATELY FAILED

Now IE has failed with the same event.

Another 9non-linked) web page stayed active as did this one.

Please help me solve this B4 I go bald from pulling my hair out.

I thouhgt it may have been related to having a series of addresses in the restricted sites list, but that doesn't seem ???? to be affecting this.
This behavior happens on severla site...not just Hotmail. But it is related to me linking to several other site & then BOOM

Remove all the sites you put in Restricted, and get a pop-up stopper.
CookieCop from www.pcmag.com allows you to add sites you want restricted and to filter cookies, as well.
AnalogX has a good pop-up stopper.
There are many more. Search for "popup blocker" or "popup stopper ", or substitute "pop-up ". There are many good, free ones.
    Zone Alarm contains one.

Thanks Abraxas, but I found no refs on the PCMAG site. I don't seem to have a problme with the pop-up ads, it's just when I click thru to a new site, & then close that subsequent window there seems to be a link to the first page that closes ALL the pages that preceded that closed page.

Any other web page that's NOT part of that web page sequence is NOT affected.

Even when I open the PCMAG page reference in U're post I get the restribted icon on the lower frams of the wen page.

Just opened one site that has been giving abends & get a msg

Problems with this Web page might prevent it from being displayed properly or functioning properly. In the future you can display this message by double clicking the warning icon displayed in the status box

    Details of msg are:-

Line 15 Char 5 Error 'null' is null or not an object
code 0 followed by web site name

When I close that page it doesn't close any other windows.

BTW what does it mean when the restricted zone icon appears at the bottom of a web page?

The link to CookieCop at www.pcmag.com is in the section called "Utilities A-Z ". You may need to sign up at that site to access the downloads. If you search in their site search box for CookieCop, it brings you to the "Utilities A-Z" section.

The restricted icon appears when a site has been added to your restricted list. That is at the root of my thinking about your problem. You may well have added far too many sites to your restricted list, or added too many wild cards.
Many times, the images and links on a web page do not come from the website, but are loaded from numerous other sites on the net as you access the page. If you have blocked a site named "ads.com ", for example, any buttons or ads from that site that may have appeared on any other page you try to access will be blocked, too.
Many sites get all their web page images from another site. If you have that blocked, you will get no images on that page, even though you are not even trying to access the site where the images originate.
Am I being confusing? The point is, that you may have blocked yourself right off many pages by adding sites to the restricted list.

Thanks for explanation of the restricted icon. Even the view of this page has the restricted icon on the lower line. though I only had doublclick in the restricted site list. Now I've cleared the list & added CookieCop 2.

Will post later today if IE abends again.

I run adaware each day & wonder if throwing away all those cookies may have caused the problem.....The start of the problem seems to have been somewhat coincident with my download of Adaware.

Possibly. I have CookieCop set to block all cookies. There are many pages that won't appear until I allow that particular cookie in. Some sites require them in one or both directions (read one or leave one).

Still getting the windows closing......I have cleared all the sites form the restricted zone. As the MS site http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q227992

indicates this is 'as designed' behavior when IE encounters an error....My question, is HOW TO DO FIND OUT WHAT THE ERROR IS?

This closing happenns when I am listing an item on EBAY. When you click through to EBAY to upload the picture, a small EBAY uploading window is spawned & when the upload is complete, EBAY closes that spawned window & the whole series closes. Resulting me being unable to list itmes on EBAY. VERY annoying.

This does NOT seem to be a n error in IE, but some annoying parm set somewhere.

    Please help.
