For the past couple of of months I have been having trouble with Internet Explorer freezing (task manager says "not responding ") frequently. I have performed maintenance such as scan disk, defrag, Registry Mechanic, AV scan, spy ware scan, etc. I delete temporary Internet files and cookies daily.

I have performed all required Windows updates on a timely basis, except Windows XP SP3 which for some reason will not install.

This happens at irregular intervals. I can be on for 30 minutes with no problem, then again I may have several episodes in a 15 minute span. I have to exit the program every time it happens.

I hope to find a solution here.

Hi Eleanor316. Since Internet Explorer is displaying the not responding text at irregular intervals then I would try the following steps to troubleshoot the problem.

    1. Start Internet Explorer in no addons mode. Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< Internet Explorer (No-Addons). See if IE works without crashing when its running with no addons.
    2. Shut down all backround programs that are running in the system tray including Norton.
    3. Boot into Safe Mode and Networking and test to see if IE works there.

IMO I would suspect Norton is causing a problem. Its a resource hog and you are wasting your money on a product that doesn't do a very good job at protecting your computer. There are a lot of other free antispyware and antivirus programs that do a much better job at protecting your computer from malware and they don't slow your computer down like Norton will.

Check these links out for good free antimalware programs, http://filehippo.com/software/antispyware/ http://filehippo.com/software/antivirus/. :)

In addition to what Evan has posted .....

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced - Reset.
