How do I get IE to keep the website link icons for the link toolbar? I have the toolbars locked, but the icons eventually disappear (actually change to the generic IE icon). In order to get the icons back, I have to type in the website address, drag it to the link toolbar, open a new IE window which updates the icon, then delete the duplicate link! Very annoying! Any suggestions?

    Hi dvierra,

The icons are: (as cut and pasted from kellys korner)

On reread I am a bit surprised to see that Kellys instructions are not specific enough. Essentially you'll be storing icons of *.ico that are in IE's temp folder. Placing them in a folder named your choice and stored in a place of your choice. The reason they have to be renamed will be apparent. They are all named favicon*.ico where the * is a number that varies based on the number of favicons stored in tif. Renaming prevents overwrites should you decide to continue adding favico*ico to the folder you made(make) , later down the road.

From within ie, any of the icons for an url have an option on a right click>properties to "change icon ". When you click this option you need to point it the folder where you have stored the fetched and saved *.ico. Choose your ico and apply. Icon is now permanent, or at least if and until you choose to change it.

    *NOTE
You may find it easier just to do a file search on your hard drive for *.ico. Once found you can copy (and rename) these to the folder of your choice, you make. Your still going to have to assign ico's to IE's url link shortcuts using the right click>properties>change icon procedure though, but this method may take a little of the drudgery out of it.

Notice I stressed "copy" as a method for saving these. Doing a file search for *.ico will have the added advantage of finding other *ico's you may have on your harddrive. These can also be used to assign new icons to url shortcuts. But if dragged or moved from their folders by accident, you will wind up with generic icons for the links they go to.

    Hi Ann,

Thanks so much for the info. I installed and ran the FavOrg program and was able to get and save all the link icons! Had one heck of a time trying to get a citibank icon, but eventually did, so now the links have icons that are "perm "!

    Thanks again for your help!
