Having picked up a virus in a p2p, I lost Systems Restore and a bunch of other files so I formatted, reinstalling winme on top of itself, thinking the updates I had would take precedent over what Windows would reinstall, WRONG. I did get my files back but I also got ie4 back and couldn't install ie6. I thought maybe if I did it in steps it would take so I downloaded IE5.5 with no problem. I've tried everything I read on Google from installing from disk to creating folders to install from. Nothing works.
I just tried downl;oading it again off the web and it downloaded, then an MS-DOS window poppd up and disappeared. I can't find the download anywhere. My questions are 1: Does anyone have any clue as to how I can install ie6 and 2: since Microsoft doesn't support ME anymore, I dont need the IE for updates, is ie6 worth the trouble I'm going through. I tried downloading it because my DSL IP said it was required, but I think theres other browers I can use with Verizon. Thanx

Thanks for the link, but I tried Microsoft 4-5 times without any results. I tried the link anyway and got the same answer ' cannot load components, make sure you are connected to the internet [I am], try again later.' I'm going to try iEradicator one more time then try to install again. If that doesn't take, I'll go with Opera. I read that your system works faster without IE anyway, I just got use to it.

IE is deeply connected with Windows & even if you are not using it, its always there in some form or other.

Faster (and better) browser like Thunderbird, Opera are another thing.

From the odd titbit in other posts on the Board there are a few items on the BBS which do not appear to function in Opera - you may be better off with Firefox.

    Opera works fine

I'm using Opera now as Yahoo informs me [off and on] that my browser [ie5] doesn't support yahoo anymore. I've had no issues on BBS with Opera not functioning. My main concern now is if ANY IE is needed at all with Verizon DSL. I was told by their tech support [in India] that IE6 or higher is required but a techie in the states hooked me up with my ie5. I'd really like to find out if I can connect to Verizon using the Opera browser but I kinda don't trust their techs. Seems if you talk to three of them you get 3 different answers.
