I'm running IE 7 with the most recent updates from M$.
If I open IE I get page can not be displayed error.
If I manually enter a site, either by domain name or ip address, I get the same error.
    But...
If I open Spybot and check for updates, it gets them, so I know I'm connected.

I've installed IE7 over itself and that worked...downloading updates and the program itself. Once reinstalled I tried to hit a website...same error.

I've run LSPfix and WinsockXPfix. Did not see anything unordinary in LSPfix and WinsockXPfix ran and did it's thing.

Any ideas at what to look for or to do?

I did gather this from another post. Should I try this?
    2. Clear all TCP/IP possible issues!

Drag mouse with left button down across the each line below then rt click and copy then paste each line below 1 at a time to an open CMD prompt and hit enter, depending on your setup you may get errors, ignore any errors for now.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    netsh interface ip delete arpcache

    ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /release *

    ipconfig /renew *

    ipconfig /registerdns

    nbtstat -RR

    netsh winsock show catalog > "%USERPROFILE% "\Desktop\lsp.txt

    netsh winsock reset catalog

    netsh winsock show catalog >> "%USERPROFILE% "\Desktop\lsp.txt
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
After the last netsh above there will be a new icon on desktop (lsp.txt). Post this back!

    Reboot

Has this problem suddenly arisen or have you had IE7 running?

As a test - to ascertain that the problem is with IE, download and run Firefox and see if that connects satisfactorily. If it does the job list you posted (from Mike Flynn) is not necessary.

Let us know the outcome and we can take it from there.

I am writing this reply through Mozilla's Firefox browser!
I can access websites with this browser yet IE7 still returns "Page cannot be displayed" error.
Where do we go from here?
I've ran Spybot, Adaware, SuperSpyware, XoftSE and nothing turned up.
I did just go into Windows Firewall blocked exceptions list and notice IE wasn't listed.
I added it but still can not connect.
I am editing my original reply via Firefox.

    Situation solved!

OK, scratch this thread. Problem solved.
Believe it or not, your asking me to try Firefox and having it work made me think. You can see in the last message I thought maybe Windows Firewall was blocking it. It ends up it wasn't.
I hunted around somemore and looked into McAfee's firewall.
Sure enough, IS was blocked - don't know how it happened but I'm sending this message via IE7.
    Live and learn.
    Thanks.

Glad to hear that you found the source of the problem - McAfee strikes again :)

Seriously though you should run only one firewall - Windows firewall should have been turned off by McAfee, check in Security Center.
