    my machine had been running fine and then microsoft released an ie7 autoupdate this week. Since then i am unable to visit any site that requries login to an https server (my bank etc.). ie7 says there is a problem with the web site.

    microsoft's update site tells me to add their site to my trusted sites. I tried that and it still doesn;t work.

    In the microsoft newsgroups (where many are having this problem) Some people have had luck unstalling the security update but that didn;t work for me. I have two XP machines that have the same problem.

    I tried flushing the DNS cache etc.

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Uninstall IE7. It'll get you back to IE6. Try IE6. If it works, you can try to upgrade to IE7 again.
    Would Firefox work?

    You may want to start a free Windows Update support incident
    request: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527

    =============================
    Support for Windows Update:
    http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

    For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB123456).

    For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

    For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through your usual support contacts.
