After reading a link the link turns read so you know you previously read it. Now why does the red link dissappear and turn back to blue or black etc after a few days or so?

that what I thought but I checked one care and the last tune up was on 2/12 and I did not do another one manually. But the red links were all gone on a website I frequenty look at daily.

Check the settings in IE - Tools Internet Options > Advanced - Security .....

'Empty temp internet files when browser closed' - checked? Ideally should be IMO.

No Peter, it was not checked, so I just checked it. Does that cause the red links to also be removed? I guess if it was not checked the red links should not have dissapeared, correct?

    In the main, yes.

The other point to bear in mind is that when the space allocated for temporary internet files fills up the oldest are removed to make room for the new. How often this happens will depend on the space allocated for TIF's - I set mine at 50 Mb, but with the setting I noted above checked they are cleared long before the 50 Mb limit is reached.

I could be wrong I think the visited links color is dependent on your history. How long do you have IE set to retain the history?

It shows 20 days. I noted that the red link did not go away when browser was closed.
