My friend recently hooked up to our local cable HSI - had been using MSN dialup and hasn't cancelled it yet.

When attempting to link to some of her favorites (10 out of 30) through Internet Explorer and the HSI, we get the ".... can't display this page...." message. (The other 20 work fine.) We get the same result when we enter the web address manually. When we access through the MSN dialup, the links work fine.

The Windows XP firewall is off and Windows Live One Care is the active firewall/AV program. I tried adding them (the links that fail) in Trusted Sites in IE and that didn't seem to work. I can't figure out where to check for restricted sites in Windows Live One Care.

Can anyone give me a hint as to where I should be looking? This may be in the wrong forum as well - if so please relocate me.

    Thanks.

The problem has been solved. The initial connection from the modem to the computer was via ethernet cable. We removed the ethernet cable and used a USB cable for the connection and all the links now work. Don't have a clue why that made a difference in linking to the Favorites that previously didn't work.

Random shots in the dark sometimes work.

Thanks for the update - bound to be an explanation somewhere, but it eludes me :)
