font size is too big...

Okay, this is kinda similar to something that *427* posted a while back, but I need some helpful input. I have a user that is having issues. Everything in Internet Explorer, and anything that is LINKED to IE has HUGE fonts, and the fonts are not normal. Every time he opens a browser, he has to change the text size to small, and it's still too big. In the accessibility options, it's all set to normal. Some other user changed this a long time ago, and we can't figure out how to change it back. I can't tell him to use a different browser, because IE is our corporate standard, and it's not just IE.

In Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>General tab>Fonts, make sure "Times New Roman" is selected. There are some fonts in that list that look similar to TNR but are much larger.

If that checks out okay and you're using IE7, click on the "Page" button (on the toolbar somewhere), go to Text Size and select the appropriate entry. That should set the default font size on all websites.

 

The next time I remotely jump on his pc, I will check to make sure it says "Times New Roman ". I should have specified before, that it's IE 6, not IE 7. Again, Corporate Standard.

Anyone else have any ideas that I can try when I am connected to his PC?

Is it just in IE that your end user has the large fonts?

If so, please try the following:
Press the ctrl key on the keyboard and move the scroll wheel back and forth on the mouse to see if that changes the size of the font.

Hope that helps.

 

First things first. Make sure that in "Tools|Internet Options|Accessibity" the option "Use style sheet" is unchecked. If it's checked you'd better inspect the relevant sheet. Unless you're comfortable with CSS, I'd forget about that style sheet and uncheck the option.
If there is no style sheet checked, try the following:
Changing the default font is not going to do much good unless in "Ignore font styles specified ....." is checked. Otherwise whichever fonts a web-site specifies will be used instead of your chosen font.
See what happens when you check the "Ignore font styles specified ..." (only if the font on a page really bothers you) and/or the "Ignore font sizes specified ...." (if the size specified on that page is, usually for me, much too small, or, in your case, too big) and see what happens.
In IE6, like in Firefox, pressing Ctrl and moving the scroll button on your mouse up and down should make your text larger/smaller to some extent. If it doesn't you'll have to use "View|Text size" and adjust. And if the text is still too big post back with exact detail of what happens (or doesn't happen) when you check/uncheck options and we'll take it from there.

Okay, I haven't been on his computer since I checked it last, but I DO remember checking the accessibility options, and there was nothing there. By that, I mean that they were NOT using any of the accessbility options. The style sheets was NOT checked.

Also, doesn't the cntrl+scroll wheel change the text size that's the same as in the view menu? His is set to 'Normal', and he changes it to 'smallest' every time he opens internet explorer, and STILL it's too big.

Okay, I just checked with the user. I changed the default font to Times New Roman, but that did no good. I also changed his default encoding from Unicode to Western, and that did no good. I reset his web settings, and that didn't work either. HELP!

 

What is his screen resolution set at? The fonts will probably appear quite huge if it is set at 640x480 or 800x600 depending on the size of the monitor.

The screen resolution is set to 1024x768 but text is still too large Someone please help IE6 has always worked problem just appeared no clue as to why

 

Try on the Menu Bar > View > Text Size | and there you have 5 choices between Largest to smallest regardless of what font you are using.

 

He knows about the font size in the view menu, and every time he goes to open internet explorer, he has to change the font size to smallest, just so he can see the whole screen - and it's still too big.

It's not his screen resolution, because it's only in Internet explorer that things are messed up.
