Unhappy IE7 Won't Install [Install log posted]

Hi everyone,

I'm really upset at the moment as I desperately want IE7 working on my computer, but everytime I try and install it (I have WinXP Home) it tries for about 2/3 minutes and then displays an error, which I've done a screen grab of and uploaded:

I've tried what I think is everything possible. I've completely un-installed my firewall and anti-virus, I've tried under a new profile and I've tried in safe mode

Please can anyone help or suggest anything else? I've been on to Microsoft support for more than three hours and got no-where....

Below is also a log of my install attempt.

Many thanks in advance,
Matt

mattblank--If MS cannot help, I suspect I will not be of much help either, but I will try.
The issue seems to be permission to write to Registry keys. Here is a MS KB article on that
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917925
If that does not help, here is another reference that has an idea. Again the issue seems to involve permission to write to files and keys. Although the error message is different it may be a lead for you. (I suspect only the first post/blog is worth reading.)

And here is a good general reference about the way to install IE7. Maybe it will help.
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html

You may want to check Control Panel|Add/Remove to make sure IE7 is not already in the list of installed programs--just in case some bits and pieces have installed. You will find it under Windows, if it is there. IE7 can be uninstalled this way and uninstalling should roll you back to IE6.
