Cannot open saved eml/nws

I have *.eml and *.nws files saved in My Documents which I just discovered will not open. Previously when I clicked on them, they would open in OE6, now, however whenI click on them, OE6 opens but the message does not even show up. It's as if I had clicked the OE6 icon

Ol Man--Right click on any .eml file|Open With
Choose Program. Click (highlight) Outlook Express and check the box at the bottom "Always use the selected program... "|OK.
Do the same with any .nws file.
Hope that helps. If not post back, and give a little more detail on "It's as if I had clicked the OE6 icon ". Also are you able to open Outlook Express files normally in the OE message list? Are you getting any error messages?

 

Thanks for your quick response. I had tried the "open with" and chose Outlook Express on both eml/nws. I get no errors. What I meant by "It's as if I had clicked the OE6 icon" was, When I click on my email icon, OE opens to my inbox. Clicking on (any) eml/nws file opens OE to my inbox. I am able to open OE files normally in the OE message list. The problem only effects OE eml/nws files I have saved elsewhere ie: My Documents

 

Ol Man--After clicking Open With, did you click Choose Program and click that "Always..." box at the bottom? That allows you to associate .eml files with OE.
Just right clicking the .eml file|Open With and choosing Outlook Express from the first list presented without being able to check the box at the bottom in the Choose Program window, will not accomplish "association ".
Another way to associate files with the program that opens them is manually through Windows Tools|Folder Options|File Types. See the image on the left below.
When you highlight EML, you click on Advanced|then "open" followed by Edit in the next window (not shown). The Edit window should read as shown in the image on the right. You can make the changes manually if needed. Then OK|OK|Apply|OK.
EDIT--Looking at the right side image as posted, I see that the full "Application used...." line is not shown. It should read "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /eml:%1 including " marks as indicated.

Eureka... you're a genius... I applied the same fix to the nws portion also. All is well in Rivercity once more. Thank you very, very much
