Missing Pictures in Favourite web site [in Internet Explorer & Firefox]

My very favourite web site has content consisting of text, pictures and links.
Very recently, the web page, when accessed no longer comes up with pictures. When I pass the mouse over the blank spaces, a copyright (photographer) notice comes up and the logo showing save, print etc but I cannot access the pictures - the spaces stays obstinately blank. On the links, all pictures are present and I have no problems. Operating System Win XP Home Edition SP2.Will not work either with IE6 or Firefox.I have anti virus,Zone Alarm Pro and several Anti-Spyware programmes but I have not changed the Security settings and all other favourite/bookmarked sites remain unaffected. Very odd but I do need to see the pictures (my Football Team won the Championship last weekend). Please Please pretty please.

Congratulations to Cowdenbeath - it's been a long wait

The site works perfectly in both IE and Firefox on my computer so there is no problem with the site itself.

The picture spaces are absolutely blank on your computer? - no red x in the upper left hand corner of each picture space? The print/save etc logo (Image Toolbar) is from IE.

What happens if you hit the Save icon on the IE Image Toolbar? Does the picture save?

Have you tried a right click in the picture space . show picture?

Have you tried hitting the Refresh button?

It is rather strange that this problem appears to be confined only to this site.

I'll continue to muse on this

Thanks for your congrats.Yes 67 years of waiting, longing and suffering followed by the most tremendous day and party. The red x does come up on Firefox but only for an instant. Tried all the print, save but no joy. Also tried re-entering the URL in my home page but same result. Also tried show picture but it is grayed out. Same result with refresh. Beats me.

OK - another question .....

How recently, since April 11th?

On April 11th - Patch Tuesday MS issued a bunch of critical updates, one of which was to resolve a patents problem with another company. KB908531 caused a lot of problems when certain other software was installed. I wonder if this may be the cause.

Do you have Automatic Updates enabled? Take a look in Add/Remove Programs - check Show Updates - for KB908531 and if it is present remove it. Your security will not be compromised.

This is a rather long shot as Firefox is also involved.

I have moved your thread with title Edit to the IE and Mozilla forums for better exposure.

Thanks Pete No, only in the past 10 days. I removed the update and rebooted but still no change. I also changed to my wife's account (rarely used) and re-iserted URL but still no joy.

Too confusing having the same thread in two forums - only saw your response through New Posts.

I have closed the thread in the Netscape and Mozilla forum with a redirect to here.

There may be something relevant in this MS KB article .....

Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web Sites in Internet Explorer although this really refers to IE in general, not to specific web sites.

I have the update, and I have no problem with the site. I assume that a link in the site http://www.cowdenbeath.net/ given above works.
I tried only FF1.5.0.3.

Thanks. I have now been able to access the pictures after a fashion by right clicking on a blank place near where the pics should be, then in properties to encoding, remove tick from Auto and retick, choose Windows European language and the missing picture appears. However I have to go through this procedure each time I access the site. Weird.

Interesting - the encoding of http://www.cowdenbeathfc.com/ is Western European ISO, but that of http://www.cowdenbeath.net/ is Western European Windows.

This BBS page is Western European ISO and the MS KB URL I posted is Unicode.

Autoselect is unticked in my browser.

Nope not working this time and unable to access pics. Encoding seems to have something to do with it and I will persevere. Sandy

Have tried all sorts, including the suggestions in the Microsoft article but still no luck. The problem is a recent one and does not occur on any of the websites linked within http://cowdenbeathfc.com. Nor does it occur on every recent new web page on the site. However when I access the blank spots in the page both on Firefox and IE6, and click on properties, the url for the image/photograph is shown but I am diverted on every occasion to http://127.0.0.1:1026/clear.cgi? All other websites accessed, whether Favourites/bookmarks or other act normally. I have also consulted the Webmaster since the site is clearly the cause of the problem but they too are stumped. Any pointers?

To be honest this is way beyond my area of experience. I will ask another member who is familiar with web site design to take a look.

May be something to do with the cache? I have checked the registry - string values seem to be ok but I definitely do not want to tamper. Also tried MozillaZine.
