Link In E-Mail Doesn't Work

Links in a friend's OE do not work. When he either clicks or double clicks a link in an incoming e-mail, nothing happens. Links work in other applications. I have checked through Tools in both OE and IE and couldn't locate anything that appeared to affect this. It would seem that there is a block somewhere that either needs to be checked or unchecked. Any suggestions?

Hey Pete,

I'm having the same problem, but I don't do anything with OE. I even tried clicking on the link you posted above. A secondary window open, but it just sits. Have gone to several other sites and same thing happens. If there's a link, IE will not open.

Any ideas???

Does the link open if you copy and paste into the Address Bar > Go?

If you get a blank page in IE, go to Start, Run and type “regsvr32 urlmon.dll” (not the quotes but the space). A box will come up saying it has been successful, click OK to close the box. It should now be alright.

If this doesn’t resolve the problem, repeat the above by replacing Urlmon.dll with each of the following : Shdocvw.dll Msjava.dll Actxprxy.dll Oleaut32.dll Mshtml.dll Browseui.dll Shell32.dll then restart the PC.

If none of these suggestions work, have a look at my suggestion in this thread. Post #14 in the thread.

Pete - I tried to open the link in a new window. A window popped up but nothing happened.

Burr - I'll give your suggestion a shot.

I'll post back.

Burr, you had the right fix!!!! The first didn't work, but doing it manually worked. The only one that was unsuccessful was the "msjava.dll" BUT I can now get links to take.

Now back to listening to XM and get my classwork done.

You have no idea how appreciative I am!!!

Had I but thought I could have pasted the essentials from that MS URL ...
Quote:
1. Click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Run dialog box, and then click OK:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
2. Repeat step 1 for each of the following commands:

regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll
As BurrWalnut posted.

Thanks a lot to all who responded. The "Reset Web Settings" did the trick. As usual, the board came through again.

Added Note - I failed to point out that the "Reset Web Settings" suggestion was posted by [B]surferdude[B] that was in a link provided by Zander. If you didn't click on the link, the above was probably a bit confusing.

BurrWalnut - I tried your suggestions and only one did not repair. The "regsvr32 msjava.dll" failed to repair. It said it could not find the specified file. I believe this is causing a problem with my address book in Yahoo. Any idea how I could repair this file??

There is every possibility that you do not have the MS Java VM installed following the law suit from Sun - for more info and download see here .....

http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/java.php

AFAIK Yahoo requires the MS Java to work - it certainly does for BT Yahoo, my ISP.

BTW Sun Java and MS Java will coexist without problems.

Thanks Pete

I went to the site you referred me to. It said I already had the latest version of the Sun Java installed. So then I redownloaded the MS Java and then it's update. Tried the Yahoo address book again and the same problem occurred. When forwarding, for example, after the addresses are checked and the "insert checked addresses" button is clicked it still only shows a blank white screen.

I did the "regsvr32 msjava.dll" again and this time it was found, so some progress was made.

Any idea what else it could be??

Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Yahoo mailer as I use Outlook Express, so I can only guess at this one

One possibility is a corrupted Address Book, the other some form of corruption in the program. It might be worth reinstalling Yahoo.
