    I'm using IE 6.0 on WinXP Pro. If I click on File, New, Window, it opens a new window with a copy of the original window's contents. This can be a little time consuming...yep, I know I can hit the stop button to halt the process.

    However, far better would be a blank page in the new window. Is it possible?

    I don't know if there is a way to change the New Window to display a blank window, but here's the workaround I use;

    Open an Internet Explorer Window. In the address bar type about:blank and then press the enter key. When the blank page displays click on File, Send, Shortcut to Desktop. Rename the shortcut to something you like, I use Blank Web Page. Now drag the shortcut to your Quick Launch Toolbar so it's available to you even when you have other windows open. Use this shortcut in place of File, New, Window.

    HTH. :)

    The "Use Blank" option does not accomplish what doctorjellybean is trying to do when transitioning from an already loaded page.

    It would work if the transistion was from a blank page but if the transistion is from a loaded page, using the New Window command will always display a copy of which ever window the command was executed from.

    This works for me

    I feel your pain, doctorjellybean. I have felt the same emotion, chiefly because I want to preserve the pagination in the first open window.

    Whenever I want a clean slate, I just open a new instance of IE, and it opens with my home page, Google Search. And since I run the Google Toolbar, I set it for opening a new window when searching. That way I usually get windows that are dedicated to task I am interested in working.

    What I haven't tried, but think would work: Set a window to whatever you want and bookmark it. Ought to work like any other bookmark.

    doctorjellybean--I created a shortcut to open IE with a blank page. The Target line reads
    "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" -nohome
    I put the shortcut in my Quick Launch so just clicking on it opens a new instance of IE, but with a blank page, and with a single click. No File, New, Window.
