Unhappy XP Pro and IE6 problems

I am unable to access 2 particular websites with my brand new Dell, using XP Pro. No one is able to figure the problem out. Last find which is the only thing different is that prior to this computer I used Me and XP Home without any problems. It is a secure site, both of them, and yes I can access other secure sites with no problems. I know You may need to know more but any ideas?

My System

This is almost certainly an IE security problem so I am moving your thread there.

Have you tried adding those 2 sites to the Trusted Zone?

If you would care to post one of those sites here - or PM me with the URL I will happliy check it out on my m/c.

Hello moco123,

Questions:

I am unable to access 2 particular websites
Does that mean a "site not found" message or a blank page? Please be more specific.

Are you using a 3rd party firewall? If so, have you disabled it and tried XP's? (Switch between the two when not connected).

Have you tried putting these sites into the Trusted Zone of IE?

Regards - Charles

xp pro and ie6

This is one site, NYCTA, bidding site

http://enterprise.nyct.com/rfponline/Vendor/logon.asp

After getting to this page, I logon without a problem
Bringing me to this page
http://enterprise.nyct.com/rfponline.../modvendor.asp

not sure if you will get to this page, but it basically has my info, then you click on

download active purchasing bid documents, which brings you to this page

http://enterprise.nyct.com/rfponline/bidexp.asp

Here where the problem is. They have a drop down window to select tools, inventory items, etc. When you highlight the choice it is supposed to bring you to the page. It does not. Their people are no help at all. The problem occurs on my new computer running XP Pro. I did get access on my laptop which is running XP Home.

The second site is the Dallas purchasing site. Now this one is a little different

You will be able to access this site

http://www.bids.dallascityhall.org/B...e=commo&which=

Once there I go to the bottom and click on the arrow on the right to move from first page to page 2, 3,etc. I am unable to do this on my new computer running XP Pro. I did get access on my laptop which is running XP Home.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I am running Norton Firewall and have added the sites to trusted area of IE6.

My System

I can't get beyond the first page of http://enterprise.nyct.com/rfponline/Vendor/logon.asp which is not surprising without your log on details - which we do not want, so don't dream of posting them

I have no problems with the second site http://www.bids.dallascityhall.org/B...e=commo&which= , the arrows work fine, but rely on their operation on Java applets - the Sun Java icon appears in my Notification Area on that site.

I suspect you do not have Java installed on your new PC running Pro. I forget the exact arrangement with Sun, but, AFAIK there was a period during which MS did not supply Java with XP.

I would be reasonably confident that installing Sun Java would solve your problem - it co-exists with MS version if that is installed. Sun Java can be downloaded from ....

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

You want J2SE v1.4.2_07 JRE

Hello moco123,

I can confirm the problem is Java which I do not have installed on this particular OS, I can't use the "next" feature either.

Regards - Charles
