Red face Download Dialogue Box Thing

You know how when you click to download something you get a box pop up that says something a rather like, open, save and cancel. Something like that? I got on here today, god knows what my mother has done and when I clicked to download something it just does it and tries to open it straight away.

The question:
How do I change the options to get that prompt to come up? I've looked around and i can't find where to do that.

Didn't find the information you thought to find?

Open any folder and click tools>folder options>file types. Look in the list of file types for the type of file that does this when you download it. I can't say for sure but my guess would be that it's a zip file so that would be the first one I'd look at. Find zip (it'll be in the extensions column) , click on it once so it's highlighted, then click advanced. Make sure there's a check mark in the box next to where it says "confirm open after download" and then click ok. If the box is already checked you'll have to find the file type in the list that's giving you trouble. Do you know what type of file it is that does this?

Okay you've lost me so bad.

Well I don't have a 'Tools' Menu when I open a folder, however folder options can be found in VIEW.

When you follow the rest of the instructions to get into file types I can find winzip. But I dont know what you mean by extensions column. Definitely doesnt have a "advanced" option. I went to edit and did confirm open after download. But I still don't think that is to fix the problem.

Btw; it was a zip file that i was downloading. The problem is getting it to confirm the download before it downloads.

It sounds like you're using win98 maybe? That would account for the differences. From what you described it sounds like you did the right thing.

Was the confirm open after download unchecked? If so, checking it should fix the problem. Have you tried downloading a zip file to see?
