Media links and game download

I have always been able to play online games on Pogo (game website); however, within the past 3-4 days can't get the games to open. Have done everything Pogo tech has said - clearing cookies and temp files--as far as I know nothing has been changed on my computer.

Then, today, tried to play a media clip from a link and the movie won't open. Tried several links like that to experiment. I don't know if the two things are related.

Any help will be appreciated.

What browser?

Click on start, on run, key in eventvwr.msc, click OK. Take a look in your event logs for errors or warnings that look related. If you find one or more, open the event, click on the icon below the up/down arrows (sends a text copy to your clipboard) and paste the event here. If there are several different ones, post them. But if there are simply a bunch of the same one, we only need to see one copy.

Based on the browser version and the event log entries (if any) we'll probably move this thread to the browser section.

comments: I sent a couple of the messages--first was in application--second was in system--there were many in the system that were the same.

I will be away from my computer later today--will check for your response this evening.

Thanks very much for your help.

Click on the start button, on run, key in
Code:
sfc /scannow
and click OK.

You may be asked for your XP install CD. If you have one, put it in the drive. If you have an OEM system that came with only a set of 'repair' CDs and none of them is the XP install CD, search your PC for a folder named I386 (the letter is i) and post back with it's location. We may need to have you do a registry tweak to point the system file checker to that folder.

If you try that and it doesn't fix up the problem, we'll have to dig around some. I'm assuming here that you are using the IE version that came with the PC but if not, please say what one you are running.

game loading

Stranger and stranger. My computer is wireless and works through a router. Have never had a problem before. Problem happened suddenly about a week ago. Had the computer in a motel this weekend--games loaded and it said the connection speed was low! Came home to my cable hook up (excellent connection speed) and games won't load again. Pogo.com has been researching and finally said it was probably a firewall IP address that was the problem and gave me a group of possible IP addresses to override it. I do not know how to do that.

In your opinion, could that be the problem and if so how do I put the addresses in the firewall??

thanks for your continued help

media and game downloads

I ran the program as suggested--it did a Windows scan. Nothing showed up requesting the XP CD.

Did search on computer--found I386 in a folder on C:, in C:WINDOWS|DRIVER CACHE, C:\WINDOWS|SERVICEpACKfILES, C:\WINDOWS\system32\Reinstall\ and another that is the same.

I have IE version 6.0.2900....

Thanks for your help

It sounds like your system is already set up to look at the I386 folder so didn't need the CD for replacement files. That or else there were none that needed replacing. In either case, you are running with a good and complete set of system files.

The 'firewall' suggestions sound a bit strange but certainly possible. Do you use a firewall on your PC or does your router have one?

If you have the IP addresses from the Pogo folks, you just put the ip in your browser address bar rather than a name.

Thanks for your help. I have Panda for virus protect but don't use its firewall. I use the Windows firewall. Panda gave me many IP addresses that 'might' work. They said they didn't have expertise in that area. I went to the Windows Firewall area and entered them there. I can play some games but not others.

I'm not quite sure how to do as you suggest. When I go to Pogo--I just put Pogo.com. I will experiment and put the IP address after that and see what happens.
