how can i repair explorer?

explorer is messed up need vbscript.dll greater than 5.5.5207 it is in windows system and i cant get it because i cant open it (it is an open with... thats okay i can do that, it is when the file download box comes up and i try to open it just comes back at me. i can only try twice because that third time it starts flashing and you have to hit restart to stop it ctrl alt del doesnt do anything you have shut it down fast. i hate this computer. the explorer cant decide how it is going to open my windows in restore and opens a new window every time and i have a line of windows going across the task bar or it opens a regular window and i can use the back button (i hope you understand what i am talking about new windows come in restore which mean you have to max them and min them if you want to use them again or close them if youre finished with them) sometimes i will get a bunch cascaded same window..i have tried to repair the explorer but cant because of the script whatever i have tried to re-run set-up doesnt do any good and i cant go back to a 4 because the folder is empty! nothing in it. cant get a 5. because i cant get rid of the 6. i have a firefox but i think the explorer is making it crazy also, firefox cant find yahoo , yahoo games or anything else i ask him to go to. i cant re-install windows 98 again i use a cd and last time the explorer came out with something missing(didnt tell me what it was, but it was needed)

 

jan roberts--It is pretty hard to tell what the problems(s) are from your post. There are so many things all lumped together.
Are you running Win98? Or?
What are you doing (or trying to do) when you are told you need the new version of vbscript.dll ? (You do not have to "open" that file. That will not help anything.)
Also all those windows opening could be the sign of malware/spyware on your PC.
But answer those two questions, and we will try to come up with some fixes.
