    Hi

I have just completed a fresh install of XP and have updated it completely but cannot reset my home page in IE6.

It's not a matter of spyware changing my home page or anything like that.

My home page default is www.msn.com. It opens to there flawlessly. I enter www.google.ca and hit enter. It's when I go to Tools/Internet Options/General and then hit the "Use Current" that is the problem. If I close the browser and then reopen it, it goes right back to msn's page every time. It's like it won't accept the change.

I even did the old registry trick where you fake-out IE into believing it is not installed and downloaded IE6 all over again and let it set up. Still, no way it will "use current" for me.

I had a nightmare of a time with the first stab at this XP format and had to reformat. I almost suspect my CDROM might be failing to see everything it's supposed to or something.

For example, I installed Norton System Works and have a similar problem there in that no matter how many times I check the box to enable autoprotect, it fails to do so.

So.....for IE6.......to avoid yet another complete reinstall of the OS......has anyone heard of this problem with setting the home page being remembered by IE6????

I assure you that all Windows Updates are in and that Adaware SE has made darn sure that no adware is here and AdWatch is keeping an eye on things right from startup.

I think I know how to force Google on this browser within the registry but I'll be back in the same boat if I or anyone borrowing this unit ever wants to change the home page.

    What the dickens now????

(almost looking for a store still open that sells rope) :(

P.S. The pc is not the one below. It is a P3 750, custom box......an oldy first unit of mine.

    EDIT:

I have done an R&R with System Works to no avail.

I am now formatting a 3rd time with a different CDROM and hoping for a good install. I shall surely post back in a day or so with how it all went down.

My deepest thanks to everyone on this forum for their help. ;)

There are lots of 3rd party proggys out there that protect the Home page from being changed by locking it. Do you possibly have such? Probably not on a "Fresh" install but I have to ask. Does AdWatch do that? Are you saving the change each time by pressing Apply > OK? Forgive the dumb questions but I think you'll end up finding some setting in your spyware proggys that is doing this for you.

Then there's always Norton...who knows what it's really capable of? :) I hear horror stories all the time but don't have it myself.

Maybe kill some of those proggy for a test.
