Using XP home 2002/SP2 and NO AOL. Can save photos in IE only as bitmap. I know this has been covered a ton before, but I am still looking for a working solution.

    So far I have:
    1) Deleted Temp Internet Files (including offline content)
    2) Increased amount of disk space in TIF folder
    3) Unchecked "Do not save encrypted pages to disk "
    4) Verified settings in Registry Editor
    5) Uninstalled camera photo software
    6) Ran system restore

Any other/new ideas out there. Any help would be appreciated!

    Beyond frustration here!

Thanks for the response. I tried all the recommendations from thoae sites. Still no fix to this annoying problem.

One thing I did notice is that only cookies are listed in my Temp Internet Files folder, not web addresses. Before I had this problem, both were listed.

snsjets --Got me stumped. Do you have Irfanview installed on your PC?
    www.irfanview.com

As a workaround, you could Right click on image|Copy and paste into Irfanview or even MS Paint. Then File|Save as as any suitable file type from there.

That's a strange one, as long as other downloads can be saved.
I can save any sort of Image files, as long as they are downloadable and there is nothing wrong with the download manager . That's from Ramona's troubleshooting website.
Please follow the instructions, and don't keep all the history of the downloads in the manager. That's a bad feature, and if you find that's the problem, remove all the extra info. It is not useful.

    Oops!
I just noticed that I was not in the Netscape group. I never use IE

Then it was indeed corruption in the index.datfile since that's what CrapCleaner does best.

Thanks for the feedback so others can benefit.

Finally an answer that works !

After well over a year of postings about the inability to save a graphic by right clicking and get the proper file extension (only choice was BMP), someone
finally came up with an answer that works for me.

We have tried every suggestion I think ever posted over the past year.
    None worked, until now.

That **** Cleaner Program did it.

    Appreciate that !

Can CCleaner be run to selectively remove only the Index.dat file in TIF? Or do you have remove all index.dat files, or even all the other stuff CCleaner claims to remove?

Jim, It's easily configurable to the extent that you can direct it to the TIF folder ONLY, if you so desire. That will take out all only the index.dat file/files found within there.

I prefer the MoveOnBoot method but to each his own.

surferdude2--MoveonBoot sounds more like a rifle (and less like a shot gun) for getting the specific task done. Thanks.

Rifle to shotgun, well put! Reminds me of a joke..

Here is my order of preferred methods of communication, in order of most to least preferred:

    In person,

    then instant messaging,

    then smoke signals,

then not communicating to begin with,

then assault rifles (BLAM! Can you hear me now?),

    and then the telephone.

The assault rifle part made me laugh. Maybe I have a mean streak in me. :D
