Well I updated to XP SP2 and now OE only shows place holders for pictures. Any one else have this happen?

OLDSALTY--I gather you are talking about images that appear in messages you are receiving.
    A couple of ideas.
    In OE Tools|Options
    1) on the Read tab, is the box "Read all messages in plain text" checked? If so, uncheck, Apply, OK
    2) on the Send tab|HTML Messages, is the box "Send pictures with messages" checked? Check it if not, Apply, OK. Although this seems to apply to sent messages, it also affects received messages.
    3) the person sending to you may not be sending the image correctly. However, if this is happening with messages from several people, this would not seem the problem.
P.S. Are you talking about the XP SP2 beta?

OLDSALTY--It would not be unheard of that reinstalling WinXP would cause some changes to OE. Did you try the suggestions I made?

I checked all the suggestions that you made and they were all correct on my computer. I found the problem.

There is an option that I did not know about. 'Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail' inside Tools > Options > Security ?
I took the check off it and everything is OK now. SP2 must have changed it.

OLDSALTY--Thanks for telling us the solution. I have WinXP SP1 and do not have the 'Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail' setting in OETools|Options|Security tab. Interesting. Good to be forwarned.

A lot of new security features in SP2 - need to check each and every setting in IE and OE after install.

I have the same thing with Outlook but it gives me a note about the pictures being blocked as a security measure and how to get them to display in a specific email.

I sorta like it that way and rarely need or want the pictures that are being blocked.
