My System

Mobo,

Possible you have a virus or other nasty aboard.

Download, update and run Spybot and Ad-aware from Quicklinks in my sig, configure Ad-aware and delete all it finds, delete entries in green in Spybot.

If this fails to solve the problem download HijackThis from Quicklinks, save it to a folder on your HD, run it and post the log here.

MOBO--Is this happening only with downloading a file? In other words, can you access the website, itself? If only when downloading files, have you noticed whether these are all .exe files?
Several possibilities
1) Clean out your cache IE Tools|Internet Options|General tab|Delete Files
2) http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=816868 A bit far out (especially if this happening on all file downloads), but error message seems very much like yours
3) http://www.experts-exchange.com/Appl..._21034780.html
4) Start|Run|type regedit|OK|navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe . If you find it, back that key up (in case you want to restore), right click on the .exe in the left panel. Delete it.
Lots more ideas here, but most are for earlier versions of IE and Windows. I do not know if they apply to WinXP.

Add one more thought...

Mobo,
Are you downloading from work or home? I assume you're at home, but want to add one more thought just in case...

If you're at work, and your company has Employee Internet Management software, the file type and/or website could be blocked.

I cleaned out the temporary files and all that and still happens.

i will get back later.

Question Same issues as Mobo

I would also appreciate insight into this issue...as I'm having the same probs as Mobo; however, when I've attempted to d/l adaware, spybot, etc., I still get that same error message and am not able to access the site. I have been running SpySweeper but have not yet been able to completely clean my system. Any other recommendations? Tysm for any help you can provide...also still waiting to see if Mobo had any luck in d/l those programs.
