    Hello-

I'm at wits end and ready to throw this puter out in the road. I can't send E-Mail messages (I can receive, however). When trying to send I get an Error Message: ..............Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800ccc0E.

My ISP is Wideopenwest and I'm running Win ME, IE6, OLEXP5. I have run various scans and the system is clear (as far as I know) of any virus, worm, spyware, adware, etc. OLEXP5 settings are corredt as per WOW Specs. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling OLEXP.

Help--- I only have a few hairs left to pull out of my head.

    Thanks-

    Greg

Did it work yesterday? If so, what changes where done to the system?

Are you at home and this is your normal ISP account? Meaning if you take your home account into to the office that is using a different ISP, you'll never be able to send.

    Hi Steve-

It hasn't worked since mid May. I haven't changed anything. Well I should say that I did download a few programs to get rid of spyware, adware and pop-ups, but that was done after I started having the E-Mail problems. I was told by my ISP that these programs would get rid of the spyware and pop-ups, which they did, and more than likely get Outlook Express working again, which it didn't. They then told me that I either had a virus(s) and or worm(s). I scanned for those and I'm clean.

This E-Mail account is at home. I use a separate E-Mail account (Hotmail) at my office.

FYI Wideopenwest is a direct cable connection.

Maybe I should point out that my son is having the same problem with his E-Mail account. The service enters the house to his computer first and then is routed upstairs to mine. His computer does have bugs and I don't know, and I guess I should, if he has taken care of that issue yet.

You receive a “Connection Error: 0x800ccc19 – The connection to the Server times out†error message when you send or receive e-mail

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;834365&Product=oex

    CAUSE
This issue may occur if both of the following conditions are true:
    • You have a McAfee Personal Firewall program installed on your computer.
    • The McAfee Personal Firewall program is damaged or is incorrectly configured on your computer.

Well, I was going to say that I haven't reveived a Connection Error: 0x800ccc19 but by looking the the link it could also show up as 0x800ccc19, correct?

Here is the Error Message that I get:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.mail.wideopenwest.com', Server: 'smtp.mail.wideopenwest.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Oh, by the way, I do not have any MacAfee programs on my computer.

Just asked him.........he hasn't done anything with his computer, evidently it's still has a virus(s). My computer is clean. Could his computer have something to do with me (my computer) not being able to send E-Mail messages?

On a router/switch, it is probably (probably) nothing to do with his problems although I don't think I'd continue to share a network with someone who kept working with an infected PC. At the very least I'd load a good firewall and block anything/everything from his IP address.

Have you tried a repair of IE? Add/remove in control panel and when you click on IE you should see an option to repair.

He and I have different IPs and he's supposed take care of his computer today. I did mention that he has the same problem with his E-Mail, didn't I?

I did try repairing IE a few days ago and that didn't work. And yes I agree a firewall is a must. I did have Kerio on my machine but I deleted it (temporarily) when someone said that it was causing my Outlook Express problems. Needless to say that deleting it didn't solve my problems.

Dog - all the searching I've done on socket error 800ccc0e leads me to believe you are dealing with a speed or firewall issue of some sort that is preventing the connection. I think the 'socket error' is more of a 'no socket' thing.

Since you get inbound mail that seems to point to a firewall problem with port 25 and with both of you getting the error, maybe a hardware firewall on your router.

However, you could possibly be looking at post-virus or spyware-caused damage of some sort that has done evil things to winsock. It can't hurt to try running Winsock Fix.

Also a good idea to clean up any spyware/malware you might have picked up. Check a few posts in the security section for suggestions by Lonnie, Dave (noahadfear), or Markp62 for cleaning. At a minimum you should use ad-aware and spybot then after cleaning with them, post a hijackthis log here for a further look at what bad things might remain.

I'll have to check in the morning and see if he is running a firewall on the router. Idon't think he is.

I suppose, since nobody has replied to the last post,(Highjackthis Log) that there nothing out of the ordinary with it.
