Upon loadind a cd containing digital photos, a message (from Internet Explorer) appears: Cannot find D:\Index.htm. Make sure the path or internet address is correct. Audio cds are fine as was the last image cd (about 2 months ago). Perhaps more serious? is when I restart my pc this message is displayed:
    16bit ms-dos subsystem
    C:\documen~1\alluse~1\startm~1\programs\startup\winlogon.exe
The ntvdm cpu has encountered an illegal instruction
    CS:Odbo IP:eek:la5 OP:63732e6769
Chose 'close' to terminate the application

I am not remotely technical. Being unable to view these cd images greatly impacts my livelihood. Please help

jackb - Welcome to the Board :)

In order to help you on this we need to know the OS (Win 95, 98 ??) you are running and the version of Internet Explorer (5. 5.5, 6).

In the mean time knowing that this usually involves running an older 16 bit application at startup that needs to be updated:(while there are a couple of other causes)

    Process File: ntvdm or ntvdm.exe
Process Name: Windows 16-bit Virtual Machine
Description: The Windows Virtual Machine for 16-bit Windows and Dos programs is used to run dos programs and old Windows programs inside a virtual machine

Below is offered based on my operating system of choice XP. Yours will be similar but based on your windows version. Principles will still be the same. What ya' got loading at startup and sitting in the systray? Can you stop this error/problem by using msconfig diagnostic startup and doing a clean or reduced startup config?

    Any past cdrom problems?

    "Device Manager" indicate any problems?

Your not using an older nonupdated burning software of some type are you?

Can you click on your desktop "My Computer" icon and then right click on your cdrom and select "explore "?

    Is this a burned cdrom?

D:\index.htm is usually looked for when a cd is an autorun. cd.

If using Xp you got any event application errors in the log?
