I have been using Word 97 since '97. I installed it from an Office 97 CD, using the choice of not installing the other parts of Office 97.

Of course, in those 5 years it has been uninstalled and reinstalled any number of times. Been through 4 computers since then plus so many crashes and OS reinstalls.

At some point for a period in time it would spell check Outlook
Express. Since its last installation it will not. Is Word 97 so ancient it won't work with Outlook Express 6, or, is there some setting I'm missing?? Heck, I'm not even sure that it was Word doing the spell check, but I thought it was.

I only use Word to write a letter every great once in a while, or maybe make a shopping list occasionally. As you can imagine I use Outlook Express much more often, like every day. I did download and try Star Office, but it is much more program than what I need.

If I could get spell check to work in Outlook Express, I would be a happy man.:D

At least until the next problem pops up.

    Martin

    Martin,

You're absolutely right - OE uses the spell checker from Word - don't see why 97 should not work with OE 6, but if you can't get it to work again try this ....

Plenty more hits on Google for 'Outlook Express Spell check'

Works for me :D - have you disabled smilies under Options (below the reply pane)?

The problem is that with Word 97 and Windows XP, natively it's missing a .dll for the spell checker. It called csapi3t1.dll and is available HERE! After downloading the dll copy and paste it to this directory:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

Thanks Ray, I had found this and installed last week, spell check now working in XP. Don't remember where I got it, how soon we forget.

You take care and thanks again.
