Sometimes several times in one day, and sometimes not for
several days, Windows Explorer will display a "Blue Screen "
and I need shut down my computer (IE version 6.0.280, fully
updated and running on XPpro). If I select to have it report
back to Microsoft, it indicates that the problem is unknown,
but that it could be a "driver" ... etc. Happens intermittently
with various websites (including this one). This only happens
with IE and not with any other program. Any suggestions??

Otherwise, check your event logs. There should be some helpful detail there.

    Thanks ...

Question: I use Ad-Aware all the time.
Is there any logic in also using Spybot S&D?
Will it get anything that Ad-Aware may not?

I use both. Normally with ad-aware being updated more often there is nothing for spybot to find but it occasionally does.

And Spybot has the immunize feature that deals with over 550 known baddies at last count so running that feature will mean you see less of the trash than usual.

After spending the better part of an evening and night
searching the net for answers, and finding that many have
this "Driver/IRQ" problem, and that there were as many
suggestions as there were people with the problem - it
was left to try figure this out for myself using the Sherlock
Holmes method "after you've tried all else, what remains,
no matter how improbable, is the answer ". For me, the
answer was to remove the Outpost Firewall and replace
it with Zone Alarm - and, so far, that has solved it.

Yourbuddy, thanks for posting back what worked for you. It doesn't surprise me that ZA was the cause.

Zone Alarm can be a problem in many cases,
but in this case it provided the cure (so far).
