I am receiving an error while my Outlook Express is not showing that it is doing anything. I get the error as follows:

    OEStoreCleanupThread: msimn.exe - Application Error
THe Instruction at "0x021d60e1" referenced memory at "0x07590000 ". The required data was not placed into memory bcause of an I/O error status of "0xc000009c ".

I then get the option to click OK to terminate the program or Cancel to debug the program.

I checked the MS web site and was not able to find anything. I have Outlook Express 6.0 (version 6.00.2800.1123) with service pack 1 and the latest secutiry fin applied.

Does anyone have any ideas for a resolution to this problem?

    Thanks

    Mike

    Mike,

In fact it is! It is probably compacting your message store in the background. To see if you have this option enabled go :

Tools > Options > Maintenance > see if 'Compact messages in the background' is checked.

A repair of IE/OE 6 would seem to be the most likely option. You don't mention your OS.

    If XP go to
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318378

If other Add/Remove programs > IE - clicking on Remove?change brings up a dialogue box with a repair option.

Well --- this turned out to be an interesting issue. In the preparation for an reload of Outlook Express, I began saving my rules, settings, accounts, and email messages to another partition of the PC. When I tried to copy the sent items folder, I received an error (cyclic redundency error -- data error in the file) from the clipboard. So -- I closed OE and deleted the sent items file. I then restarted OE. It has been up with no problems since. It looks like the issue was that the sent items folder was corrupted in some manner and when the message compaction would run in the backround, the error would occur.

Thanks for the help Pete. I took a look at the site you mentioned -- nice site!

    Thanks...

    Mike

    Mike,

Glad to hear that you solved the problem - thanks for posting back.

BTW you can put your message store wherever you want, e.g. on another partition - this saves backing it up if a re-install of OE is necessary and is it is handy to include it in your data backup :

Tools > Options > Maintenance > Store Folder.

Also your Address Book can be stored elsewhere :

I use a folder Outlook Express on another partition for both.

That's one of the reasons I do not run the cleanup function automatically. It can corrupt data.

What I usually do (about once a week) is to run the File > Folder > Compact All Folders function.
