MCHAAK--Are you getting the error message on all websites or just some?
Here are the official MS fixes for that error message.
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;241344
Two of them may be most important for you.
1) Do you have a HOSTS file? (Not HOSTS.sam) That message about 127.0.0.1 suggests that you do and that the page you are trying to see is blocked by being in the HOSTS file.
2) Do you use AOL?
There also are ideas at this site

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...r.htm+&spell=1

And while I doubt this is the problem, you could try disabling any popup/ad blocker you are using just to see if it helps.

Kevin is an unknown quantity at this point

Send a message via Yahoo to Kevin
MCHAAK-

Please turn off your caps lock. Typing in all caps is considered shouting, not to mention that it is more difficult to read. Thanks.

HELP!!! The same thing just keeps happening over and over - I am afraid by now I have tried some many settings that I am in worst shape than when I started! Anyone got anything new to try - plus - where do I find that "string" setting that they suggested changing? If I reinstalled WIN 98e would that help? I am so darn frustrated at this point I am going to do something really bad. thanks. m

Please dont--that would couse even more problems .
Question have you ever reinstalled windows while you already had an update IE ?

answer Jims questions ? I see three no four
Quote:
Are you getting the error message on all websites or just some?1) Do you have a HOSTS file?2) Do you use AOL?
and popupBlocker or firewall, router
to find out if you have a HOST file go start run search> type in
host (no file extention) You can right click on that file and open with note pad (uncheck the BOX to always open it with notepad)
Look for 127.0.0.1 if found delete it only it, save and exit,, make sure notepad doesnt appendage a txt extention afterwards, if so right click on it and rename or see below *

5 What type of connection ? 6who is provider?
also 7 On IE's toolbar go help about IE, post here all thats there
Please..

Seven questions no eight , so far ?
OR
------------------clip copy----------------------------------------------------
Method 1
NOTE: Do not perform the following steps unless you determine that your computer does not need a Hosts file. To determine if you need a Hosts file, contact your network administrator.

If your computer is not connected to a network, or does not require a Hosts file for Domain Name System (DNS) resolution, rename the Hosts file to "Backup of Hosts file". To rename a file, right-click the file, type the new name, and then press ENTER.

NOTE: Do not perform the following steps without contacting your network administrator.
Method 2
If your computer is connected to a network that requires a Hosts file, edit the Hosts file and disable all lines that refer to the Web site Internet Protocol (IP) addresses you are unable to view. To do so, place a number sign (#) at the beginning of each line that contains the IP address of the Web site you are unable to view.

LONNY!?

wow! First thing - I have never figured out how to contact my Network Administrator. Sad but true. It has come up before. It happens to all my favorites and especially if I try to link out of my e-mail to a site - that is the worst - like right now I got on by opening IE instead to get here. But it effects IE sometimes too. SO.... ? Anyway - I did just install a popup stopper - I have dial - up 56k - Juno and the IE 6.0.2800.1106 - just reinstalled it actually as an attempt to help - 128bit SPI. I checked in "Find" for host and it came up with 9 files. most are images? like on a page? ONe had the list of my favorites - plus some other sites - no 127. I think I already deleted that once? I also have this application DLLHOST - it is a COM suragate? DLL.EXE - get this - created - 3/6/03 and modified 4/23/99 ? Anyway - that is what I got so far for you to ponder on. thanks for your reply - if you want to help I would like that - but if I am so screwd up here it is a big headache I will understand. m What do you think?

Hi MCHAAK

Been snoping around a little-- so juno & netzero have there own browser ?
==============================================
In Juno 5.0, can I use my own browser instead of Juno's Web browser?
You can surf the Web with another browser instead of Juno's Web browser in the Web screen. After you connect to the Web through Juno, just open your other browser. This browser will use your Juno connection. You can also specify which browser Juno should use when you click links in messages or in ads.

To set the browser that opens links:

On the Options menu, click Web Preferences.

In the Juno Web Preferences dialog box, under Web Browser Settings, select the Open links in messages with Juno's Web browser check box to use Juno's Web browser. To use the browser you've set as your default browser, clear this check box.
Click OK.
=================================
so uncheck juno then open an IE on its toolbar go > tools internet options > programs
and hit the reset web settings button and place a check next to [X] internet explorer should etc etc defailt browser
then apply and OK

http://www.juno.com/techsupport/brow...n-browser.html
http://www.juno.com/techsupport/browser/index.html

Click here to download the (there)Connection Wizard.
http://www.juno.com/techsupport/erro...t-unavail.html
=============================================
so whch version =Juno Platinum , juno 5
stick with if no luck yet maybe someone here with the same service will chip in
You could also ask there after joining I, assume
Good luck
Lonny

Forgive me if I am going over things here.
A Hosts file is a way to redirect or direct a query to open a web page. The MartinDesign Hosts file will prevent from getting certain ads downloaded and certain sites from being accessed by redirecting the query to the address 127.0.0.1, which is your very own computer. Of course the info isn't there. To see if you have this file or any other Hosts file that is affecting you, open Wordpad by going to Start\Programs\Accessories\Wordpad. When that opens, go to File\Open and type in "C:\Windows\Hosts" WITH the quotes. If not found, it is not there.
This Hosts file does not have any extension, in Windows Explorer under the column Type it will just say File, not SAM File, not Application or Application Extension or anything else.
If it is there, in Windows Explorer, right click on it and Rename it to Hostsold.

This 'string setting' that has been mentioned, does this have something to do with the modem? Though, I don't think this is the problem. And what is the string that you are to put in?

I used to have Juno, and do not remember them downloading a Hosts file, but I certainly remember them downloading a ton of VBS files [Click.Vbs is one] whenever you use the Email function. Their browser is a server application. Spies they are! It is in their EULA about this, though it does not specifically say it is a server.
