    MCHAAK--Are you getting the error message on all websites or just some?
    Here are the official MS fixes for that error message.
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;241344
    Two of them may be most important for you.
    1) Do you have a HOSTS file? (Not HOSTS.sam) That message about 127.0.0.1 suggests that you do and that the page you are trying to see is blocked by being in the HOSTS file.
    2) Do you use AOL?
    There also are ideas at this site

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=SHDOCLC.DLL/dnserror.htm+&spell=1

    And while I doubt this is the problem, you could try disabling any popup/ad blocker you are using just to see if it helps.

    MCHAAK-

    Please turn off your caps lock. Typing in all caps is considered shouting, not to mention that it is more difficult to read. Thanks.

    Please dont--that would couse even more problems .
    Question have you ever reinstalled windows while you already had an update IE ?

    answer Jims questions ? I see three no four
    to find out if you have a HOST file go start run search> type in
    host (no file extention) You can right click on that file and open with note pad (uncheck the BOX to always open it with notepad)
    Look for 127.0.0.1 if found delete it only it, save and exit,, make sure notepad doesnt appendage a txt extention afterwards, if so right click on it and rename or see below *

    5 What type of connection ? 6who is provider?
    also 7 On IE's toolbar go help about IE, post here all thats there
    Please.. :)

    Seven questions no eight , so far ? :)
    OR
    ------------------clip copy----------------------------------------------------
    Method 1
    NOTE: Do not perform the following steps unless you determine that your computer does not need a Hosts file. To determine if you need a Hosts file, contact your network administrator.

    If your computer is not connected to a network, or does not require a Hosts file for Domain Name System (DNS) resolution, rename the Hosts file to "Backup of Hosts file ". To rename a file, right-click the file, type the new name, and then press ENTER.

    NOTE: Do not perform the following steps without contacting your network administrator.
    Method 2
    If your computer is connected to a network that requires a Hosts file, edit the Hosts file and disable all lines that refer to the Web site Internet Protocol (IP) addresses you are unable to view. To do so, place a number sign (#) at the beginning of each line that contains the IP address of the Web site you are unable to view.

    LONNY!?

    wow! First thing - I have never figured out how to contact my Network Administrator. Sad but true. It has come up before. It happens to all my favorites and especially if I try to link out of my e-mail to a site - that is the worst - like right now I got on by opening IE instead to get here. But it effects IE sometimes too. SO.... ? Anyway - I did just install a popup stopper - I have dial - up 56k - Juno and the IE 6.0.2800.1106 - just reinstalled it actually as an attempt to help - 128bit SPI. I checked in "Find" for host and it came up with 9 files. most are images? like on a page? ONe had the list of my favorites - plus some other sites - no 127. I think I already deleted that once? I also have this application DLLHOST - it is a COM suragate? DLL.EXE - get this - created - 3/6/03 and modified 4/23/99 ? Anyway - that is what I got so far for you to ponder on. thanks for your reply - if you want to help I would like that - but if I am so screwd up here it is a big headache I will understand. m:) What do you think?

    Hi MCHAAK

    Been snoping around a little-- so juno & netzero have there own browser ?
    ==============================================
    In Juno 5.0, can I use my own browser instead of Juno's Web browser?
    You can surf the Web with another browser instead of Juno's Web browser in the Web screen. After you connect to the Web through Juno, just open your other browser. This browser will use your Juno connection. You can also specify which browser Juno should use when you click links in messages or in ads.

    To set the browser that opens links:

    On the Options menu, click Web Preferences.

    In the Juno Web Preferences dialog box, under Web Browser Settings, select the Open links in messages with Juno's Web browser check box to use Juno's Web browser. To use the browser you've set as your default browser, clear this check box.
    Click OK.
    =================================
    so uncheck juno then open an IE on its toolbar go > tools internet options > programs
    and hit the reset web settings button and place a check next to [X] internet explorer should etc etc defailt browser
    then apply and OK

    http://www.juno.com/techsupport/browser/50-use-own-browser.html
    http://www.juno.com/techsupport/browser/index.html

    Click here to download the (there)Connection Wizard.
    http://www.juno.com/techsupport/errors/error-net-unavail.html
    =============================================
    so whch version =Juno Platinum , juno 5
    stick with if no luck yet maybe someone here with the same service will chip in
    You could also ask there after joining I, assume
    Good luck

    Forgive me if I am going over things here.
    A Hosts file is a way to redirect or direct a query to open a web page. The MartinDesign Hosts file will prevent from getting certain ads downloaded and certain sites from being accessed by redirecting the query to the address 127.0.0.1, which is your very own computer. Of course the info isn't there. To see if you have this file or any other Hosts file that is affecting you, open Wordpad by going to Start\Programs\Accessories\Wordpad. When that opens, go to File\Open and type in "C:\Windows\Hosts" WITH the quotes. If not found, it is not there.
    This Hosts file does not have any extension, in Windows Explorer under the column Type it will just say File, not SAM File, not Application or Application Extension or anything else.
    If it is there, in Windows Explorer, right click on it and Rename it to Hostsold.

    This 'string setting' that has been mentioned, does this have something to do with the modem? Though, I don't think this is the problem. And what is the string that you are to put in?

    I used to have Juno, and do not remember them downloading a Hosts file, but I certainly remember them downloading a ton of VBS files [Click.Vbs is one] whenever you use the Email function. Their browser is a server application. Spies they are! It is in their EULA about this, though it does not specifically say it is a server.

    Lonny,
    The simplest way to find what webpage or server from an IP address is to open a dos window and type this in;
    tracert 216.239.53.100
    The very first line that appears will be;
    Tracing route to www.google.com [216.239.53.100]
    Press CTRL+C to immediately stop the tracing the route.
    When you enter in a webpage in the IE address bar, the first thing it does is a DNS [Domain Name System] lookup for the IP. If the web address with the IP is in the Hosts file, your computer can go to that page faster, as it does not need to do a DNS. For example, your Hosts file can consist of these lines, you will get to google and this forum a bit faster. You will notice the difference on dialup.

    216.239.53.100 www.google.com

    62! AND LONNY!

    We meet again 62. Thanks for the thoughts. I did find the Host file and renamed it hostsold. Now what? By the way I use Juno 4 - I like the font selection better than on the new one - the new one has a smaller font limit for some stupid reason. Anyway - thanks for the 411 on that 127 thing - that is odd. If you or Lonny were wondering - probably guessed already didn't you? YES I have a hobby - I have been trying out every accelerator/optimizer on the net for months and I think recently one of them left something behind that is ******** with my stuff now. Could someone tell me why when a person UNINSTALLS something that they leave so much behind???!!! I have found stuff all over the place from stuff that was long gone and used cleaners and such and they are still parts around! Thanks for the help - I will see what happens next. Right now I have a new one - after using a couple of those Windows cleaners and optimizer - my Diskeeper Lite is blocked from working - they claim some other defrag is in use?! Chew on that one now!;) m

    MCHAAK Hi
    First you did the host thing did it help ? did you look at and try the other suggestions ?
    second-- unfortunaltly being download happy is what brings most people here,, asking questions verious problems.
    get spybot and adaware (Both free) please contribute to spybot sometime in the future,,.
    update them right off best if not done before to start PC in safe mode and scan and clean with spybot first(choose advanced mode)and select all that it finds let it clean you're system up even the one that you have to one at a time!! except if you have win me dont let it clean user tracks(explorer)
    SpyBot downloads by PepiMK Software: http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download
    http://www.tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/
    Downloads - Support - Lavasoft: http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

    Then if you want download startup list here
    Startup List http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php
    and post it here
    while you're at the last link look over to right
    Spyware Search
    Look up spyware in Spywareguide.com's spyware database

    Most (if not all) of these accelerator programs use the hosts file by adding the addresses of your favorites to the hosts file. It's possible that some do the same for links that you click on but I couldn't say for sure. When using one of these programs and when you click on a favorite or any type of web address your computer will first look to the hosts file for the numerical address before using the dns server. If the address is listed in the hosts file it then goes to the web page. It saves a little time (really little) by not having to get the address from the dns server. The problem with this is that if the web page address changes (and they do change over time) after you have the entry for it in your hosts file your computer will find the old address in the hosts file and try to go there. Since the page no longer exists at that address you will get a page not found error. In my opinion (take it for what it's worth) , for the amount of time you save using the hosts file it's not worth the headaches and it's best not to use the hosts file for anything unless there's an entry in it for your AV program for scanning email or some such thing. If you have some type of accelerator running all the time I'd check and make sure it doesn't make a new hosts file after you renamed the old. I would guess that there's probably a way in the options of the program to make it not use the hosts file. You might have a look.

    MCHAAK, good idea staying with the 4. I used the 5 when I was on Juno, not that great.
    Some programs install what is called shared system files. Sometimes it is their own, other times they update an older system file. This is where it gets sticky and reminds me of what Juno 5 tried to do when uninstalling. When a program is uninstalling, you'll get prompted by a message along the line that you system indicates this file will no longer be used and would you like to delete. Most don't know if they will ever need this file again or not and choose to keep on the safe side. This is how they stack up and cause problems later on. Zone Alarm is bad about not removing any, it's files will not be used again.
    When I used Juno, it was on Win95, and the dial up networking was updated when installed. Later when uninstalling, I got the prompt about the file Rnaapp.Exe no longer in use and would I like to delete. It was a good thing I recognized the name of the file, it was part of dial up networking.
    As far as your current situation with Diskeeper Lite, I really haven't a clue. As you stated yourself, you have been trying just about everything on the internet.
    The only for sure way to clean up your system is to format and install a fresh OS. And then use a program called InstallWatch Pro or InCntrl. It can analyze what files have been updated, deleted, added, and modified, and then keep a log. It will do this for the registry, though I do not recommend everyone to go into the registry
