Hi ..I am using Windows 98 SE and I have this unusual problem which the tech person available to me cannot work out.......If I receive an Email with a link in it or if I am in a Url and ckick on for example "Feedback" link....I cannot get the link to work..I get a Margue (IE it 1/2 opens) and then an hourglass freeze.....so I have to close then copy link open IE and paste in ......However ..The tech man I employed has just discovered that by clicking "stop" then "refresh" the link will then go through...... He knew I had recently used an Eval of MemoryBoost which had changed my settings and said this was probably the problem........I hope I have explained my problem sufficiently and would welcome any reply of advice re my problem..

CAUSE
This behavior may occur for any of the following reasons:
The (Default) value setting in one or more of the following registry keys points to an incorrect location for the Urlmon.dll file:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{79eac9e0-baf9-11ce-8c82-00aa004ba90b}\InprocServer32]
This may occur if you install a customized version of Internet Explorer that was created with the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) version 5.01 Service Pack 1 (SP1), 5.5 SP1, or 6.0.
The following registry key is missing or damaged:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
One or more of the following files is missing, damaged, or improperly registered:

Shdocvw.dll
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
Quit all programs that are running.
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)
If the problem is still not resolved, verify that the following registry values are present and correct:

After typing in regsvr32 urlmon.dll and clicking OK I waited and waited but "no message"........I really appreciate the help ..I cannot sustain hiring PC experts who play around for an hour ,give up and demand $80...for their work?
When you run this executable, when it prompts you whether you wish to overwrite Newer files,
make sure to click YES for each file (do not select "No" or "No to All").
Try once more - just to make sure that you typed it correctly - if it works, the OK message should appear more or less instantaneously - so don't hang around for ages waiting for it!
BTW, you might also wish to keep an eye on this thread:-
Jmatt.....YES.Thankyou...The Repair did work ..I can now link with a click although slowly...But other panel messages are appearing .....I have a sneaking suspicion my PC needs radical reinstalling ...For some time now on start up I get an Error Panel Stating " Initialization file not found Err 0" and click OK to get rid of it..Yes again I hired a TechMan with no success...He could not find what was causing it...Having upgraded to Windows Player 9 some time ago I found recent downloads of streaming video files were unable to be played .. So today I uninstalled v9 and I reinstalled Windows media player 7.1..Now I have found that it has no audio...It will play video and apparantly audio files but there is no audio........Other players like PowerDVD/DivXplayer and Transcribe are unaffected ...
So basicly I am in a mess....I am supposedly using the best TechMan in the city but I am now at a stage when my confidence in him has diminished completely Thanks Ron NZ

SpyBot-S&D searches your hard drive for so-called spy- or adbots; little modules that are
responsible for the ads many programs display. But many of these modules also transmit
information about your surfing behaviour and more to the net.
If SpyBot-S&D finds such modules, it can remove them - or replace them with empty dummies in
case their host software won't run with its bot removed. In most cases, the host still runs
fine after removing the bot.
For a list of 'supported' bots see the feature lists below. The Spybot-S&D interface is so
easy, that updates just require replacing a file of about 80k in size. Those updates are
distributed by my software mailinglist, over this page and are also available from inside the
programs update section.
Another feature of Spybot S&D is the removal of usage tracks, which makes it more complicated
for unknown spybots to transmit useful data. The list of last visited websites, opened files,
started programs, cookies, all that and more can be cleaned. Supported are the three major
browsers Internet Explorer, Netscape Communicator and Opera.
Last but not least Spybot-S&D contains some routines to find and correct invalid entries into
the registry.
Red entries indicate spyware problems that should be fixed to avoid security and/or privacy
problems. This is the only kind of problem that is preselected to be fixed.
Black entries are system internals. If you do not know what they mean, I would suggest to either
keep your fingers from it or visit the support forum.
Green entries indicate usage tracks. It can do no harm to remove these.
I personally only remove the Red entries as the Green entries remove items I use .
Make sure you use the SpyBot > Online > Update button regularly .
SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.
How? By setting a "kill bit" for the CLSIDs of spyware ActiveX controls, it prevents the
installation of any of them from a webpage. You can run Internet Explorer with Active-X enabled,
but you will never even get a "Yes/No" box popped up, asking you to install a spyware Active-X
control (Internet Explorer will never download or run it!). All other Active-X controls or
plug-ins will work fine.
The SpywareBlaster database contains information on these known spyware Active-X controls. Make
sure you run the Check For Updates feature frequently to get the latest database! (And make sure
you check the new items to protect your system against them!)
As a side benefit, setting this "kill bit" will also prevent the spyware Active-X from running,
in many cases, if it is already installed on your system.*
SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition
to SpywareBlaster's protection method.
An anti-virus program scans files before you open them and prevents execution if a virus is
detected - SpywareGuard does the same thing, but for spyware! And you can easily have an
anti-virus program running alongside SpywareGuard.
Features Listing: Fast scanning engine
Scans exe and cab files - the two most popular file types for distributing spyware
Signature-based scanning - for known spyware (list)
Heuristic/generic detection capabilities - some spyware programs can be detected even if the
code undergoes significant changes
Small size - with a small size and small definition sizes, download and updates are quick
SG Control Panel - provides easy access to help and integration options
SG LiveUpdate - provides an easy updating solution
Spyware files are blocked before being opened or run - they are not simply shut down after they
are loaded in memory (and after they have performed their tasks)
The full path to the spyware executable is provided on the alert screen
Once a spyware file is detected and blocked from running, the options are provided to either
continue or to delete the spyware file
It's a free download

Index.dat
Delindex works in Win98 and WinME . http://www.burzurq.com/forum/delindex.html
The primary purpose of Delindex is to delete Index.dat files which are never resized, and only
get bigger. These files contain all your web surfing history since they were (re)created, and
large index.dat files can cause performance issues with browsing. Index.dat files cannot be
deleted if Explorer is running. The secondary purpose is to delete junk files for reasons of
space, privacy, and performance. Delindex is "stand-alone" program and requires no installation
and no other files to run. All notes are within the program, so there are no separate ReadMe or
Help files.
Is that the full and complete message? What do you have loading at startup?

Now I have found that it has no audio.
Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Multimedia - Audio - Playback Advanced Properties - Performance. Move the Hardware Acceleration down a notch or two. Does this help? If not, check whether there is an update available for your soundcard.
I am afraid everything has turned to custard ....On startup pc is looking for CDdirect which I believe is something to do with Roxio's CD Creator Writer ....then I get the initialisation error ...then I have to keep reinstalling Windows media Player..It works for a while then just refuses to even open...BTW I have AVG Virus so am positive I am virus free....My PC is configured with a main 30gb hard drive partitioned into 3... 4gb for OS....4gb and 22gb ....I also have a secondary hard drive of 120GB....So its no problem to copy my whole OS partition onto it...in fact at a pinch i could copy my whole main drive onto it......The tech man told me it was a huge job to reinstall everything ???I wonder? Can I "scrub" a partition IE cleanout the 4gb partrition where Windows etc is on... And completely reinstall Windows .....Or is there another simple procedure .....It seems to me at this stage each step forward = 2 steps back and a reinstall probably is the best way to go.........I think I can reinstall all the programs I use so there is no problem there.....Am I capable of doing a OS reinstall ..thats the big question.....Maybe if I could find simple straight forward directions I could print out these and just follow to the letter...Sorry for being a nuisance Ron NZ.
