I am unable to log into the Offical US Army website (http://www.army.mil/)

I used to get it with no problem.

I have contacted by ISP (Time-Warner/Road Runner) they cannot solve the problem.

I have tried to contact the Public Relations Section of the Dept of the Army, as suggest by the DOD computer people, but their voice mail boxes are either full or they do not return my calls.

I can get the Navy and Air Force sites, but not the Army.

The following systems information is supplied:
    HP Pent II @450mz
    RAM: 328
Windows XP Home Edition (All updates)
    IE 6 (All updates)
    Zone Alarm Pro (All updates)
    Norton Anti-Virus (All updates)

One thing I have noticed is the my IP Address is differant from the listing I have on my Zone Alarm Listing. When I try to go into Zone Alarm to change the IP Address listed, it will not permit me to and will not tell be how to.

    Thanks.

Have you tried deleting your Temp Files, Temporary Internet Files, and History? If not I would give this a try. Right click the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop and select properties. On the General tab under Temporary Internet Files click on "Delete Files ", under History click "Clear History" then click on the Content tab and under Personnel Information click on Auto Complete. When the Auto Complete window opens click on "Clear Forms" and "Clear Passwords ".

Then open Windows Explorer, navigate to your Temp folder and delete all of the contents, then open your Temporary Internet file folder and look for all cookies to the site you are having problems with and delete them. Deleting the cookies from here should also delete them from your Cookies folder, but to make sure that they are all gone open your Cookies folder.

    Hi Adam

    Rod said good stuff.

You did not say which OS you use or the version of Zone Alarm?

Normally this should not even be in Zone Alarm or any Firewall unless you are using something besides IE to access the site or you are allowing them access your computer.

If Rod's suggestions did not do it, do this, do not retry the site untill both steps are complete.

    1. In Zone alarm remove the permissions you gave.
    2. go to command prompt type

    ipconfig /flushdns

    Now retry!

    Let us know!

    Good Morning Adam

My Daughter is in National guard so uses it from my cable.

Try accessing the site after turning off the Firewall! If this works then the problem is firewall related which I think it is.

Additionally make sure you have not turned on the XP firewall. If so turn it off.

Do you use any kind of popup stopper?

Additionally you might want to do a Spy/Adware cleanup using the below:

    Spyware and adware removal

    SpyBot http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download
Run this twice delete all it finds, "ALWAYS" run this before AdAware.
Leave all it wants to leave after the second run.

    AdAware 6.0 http://www.lavasoft.com
    Run only after SpyBot!
Make sure to configure to Max settings, all files and compressed files.Delete all it finds

    BHO Demon http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm
A BHO is like a autostart/startup that only runs when you run the Browser.
This program runs stand alone no install is required post me the items it finds other than the below. Normal entries here would be Acro….. (Acrobat Reader) or Nav…. (Norton Anti virus).

And a cleaning of the registry:

    RegScrubXP http://home.carolina.rr.com/lexunfreeware/RegScrubXP/RegScrubXP.htm
    NOTE: W2K and XP only
Select RegScrub finds problems and remove all it finds.

If they don't cure the problem the above will benifit your computer anyway!

I sent this trace to the following and this was their reply. They have not returned my phone messages and gave me this web site, but as you know, I cannot access army. mil. Could you folks contact them at the website and explain my problem?

    Thanks

    Dear Mr. Adams:

We just went to that page and was able to assess it. We recommend that you contact the Army Web Team for assistance. You may e-mail them via their "Contact Us" web page at http://www.army.mil/ContactForm/index.html. If you are unable to access that page we are providing you their Public Affairs Office telephone number, (7032) 602-5201 or 602-2907.

The Army site was immediately after your last successful ping on my trace.

Do you use any ad-control software?

This is a long-shot, perhaps, but many of those programs work by blocking sites by adding entries to the hosts file. If it redirected that IP to localhost, you would get no connection to them. Wouldn't hurt to check.

Go to Windows\system32\drivers\etc folder. You'll see a file with no file ending called just "hosts ". (You will need to show hidden files in Folder Options if you can't see it). Open it with Notepad and see if you find anything interesting there.

    Try this URL:
