Have searched Microsoft and this web site for this problem and have tried things suggested like comparing .dll's versions, downloaded the latest scripting, checked active x scripting and it is enabled.

Still when I open up some web site along with getting the correct web site to open I also get a page that opens that says "about blank" and at the bottom left says DONE.

    Am using IE 5.5 sp2.

    Any ideas ?

I dont think thats it. I know Netscape works a little different but if accessing a popup then Netscape would probably do the same thing and its not. Only IE doing it.

Is your homepage set to blank?

In options, is there a check by "reuse windows when launching shortcuts "?

    gghartman--Have you tried Repair IE?
Is your Home Page set as "about:blank "? You can see by clicking IE Tools|Internet Options|General Tab|Home Page section.
I have my IE Home Page set for about:blank since that loads IE faster.

Something is fouled up with the BBS. I have tried to modify the above post, but it does not seem to take.
What I want to say is
gghartman--Have you tried to Repair IE (from Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs?
Is your Home Page set as "about:blank "? You can see by clicking IE Tools|Internet Options|General Tab|Home Page section.
I have my IE Home Page set for about:blank since that loads IE faster.

I'm also having a problem with the BBS as regards updating the screen info. One post shows no responses but when clicked on, Whitphils reply is clearly there. Strange. I hope it isn't because I elected to get the latest Patch from MS..

edit, I just checked....My post isn't registered here either.....Hmmm.. The cookies are going stale..

First no my home page is set for my ISP. When the page displays it comes up about blank not about : blank.

Not sure how to do a repair on IE didnt know that was something you could do. Have run certain repairs on OE but not IE. Went into add/remove and there is nothing like that there.

Not url displays only about blank.

gghartman--There are several ways to access Repair IE. The simplest is to click Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information|click on Tools. If you see Internet Explorer Repair Tool on the dropdown menu, click on it. It will take a little while to run, but it can't hurt.
(Going through Add/Remove Programs, you scroll to Microsoft Internet Explorer, Highlight it, click Add/Remove and one of the choices should be Repair Internet Explorer. Check the box and click OK.)
Basically your problem is that you are getting two instances of IE to open simultaneously. I have not seen that problem before. Maybe IE Repair will do the job. As I said, it cannot hurt.
Do you also regularly reboot your PC? That solves a lot of problems!!

I had this problem before the patches.

    Alias yesterday.

    Updating done today.

This may or may not be related

    Question for all.

Did you have Anti-Virus turned off while updating ?

And as a thought, and thought only. Anybody using Windows ME may have to have System File protection turned off.

****, as long as I've worked with Microsoft I never knew about the IE repair function. I will give this a try and thanks.

Will also try doing the Cumulative Security update. I usually do most of the updates when I receive the bbs newsletter when Arie discusses them.

Will let you know which one hopefully fixes problem.

Thanks again. As always this site and the users are extrememly helpful.

First did the cumulative security patch update to no avail.

Second did the IE repair to no avail.

I guess at least I'm upto snuf on the patches and anything that might have been wrong with IE should be fixed. Just keep getting that **** blank page.

Found this info from this site.

NetCaptor's PopupCaptor feature allows users to block popup windows based on the first URL that is opened in those windows. Prior to version 6.5.0 beta 7, PopupCaptor automatically allowed popup windows which were opened to a blank location (about:blank).
Recently, many sites which use popup ads have changed the method that they use to open popups -- instead of opening an ad window directly to an ad location, they open a new blank window at "about:blank" and then change the location of the ad window via JavaScript. These popups were then able to bypass PopupCaptor.

As of 6.5.0 beta 7, NetCaptor no longer automatically allows new windows at "about:blank ". By adding "about:blank" to your PopupCaptor list, you can block sites which open new blank windows and then use JavaScript to redirect them.

Turning on the PopupCaptor confirmation (NetCaptor Options > Confirmations) may be useful in tracking which URLs are being blocked using this method.

Looks like it is a popup control..
