i have been using W7 Ult with IE9, 32 bit, for a few years .
i log in as a normal user ... altho i can log in as an admin when necessary .

up until recently , as a normal user ,my sites visited have been saved in History , as well as some "Computer" activities ,eg ,files created ,downloaded etc.

for a few weeks now, as a normal user , the site details are not being saved ,but the Computer activity is .

i have tried a number of suggestions , but no luck ...

i have a hunch that somehow i may have moved ,or deleted a file , or altered a permission .

Note .. if i switch to ,or log in as , an admin , site details are saved , but these cannot be seen as a normal user ..

appreciate any tips as to what to check , look for , or try ...either files ,settings , permissions ,etc.

    thanks

Internet Explorer 9 is way out of date, out of Support, unsafe and insecure. You should have updated to Internet Explorer 11 some years ago - it would have been offered/installed via Windows Update. which suggests that your system is not up to date.

Do yourself a favour and install IE 11 and see if the issues remain.

thanks , PeteC ... i have thought about IE11 , but 9 had no probs..

i have kept up to date with Updates ,but do so manually , and always read what they are about ... have declined some Updates ,including IE11 ...

if i install IE 11 will my favorites and History be retained ?

Never lost anything when I updated IE in any versions of Windows. Same with FF. FF is just used as a backup but I do keep it up to date. In IE look at Tools/Internet Options/General Tab/Browsing History and make sure that there is NO check mark in Delete browsing history on exit. Same place go to Settings/History tab and see what it says for days to keep. Default is 20.

To add to MrBill's comment you can back up your Favourites to a file and then import to the new browser either on the same PC or another - it is good practice anyway to keep a backup of Favourites.

File > Export to a File > Favourites (+ Cookies & Feeds if you want) >Select output file > Export

To import - File > Import from a File and follow the wizard through.

    For Browsing History see .....

How to Export the History in Internet Explorer to a New Computer
