Email Hyperlinks

Outlook 5 email hyperlinks opened Netscape, Outlook 5.5 email hyperlinks opened Internet Explorer, and finally Outlook 6x Email hyperlinks open Netscape. How do I control which Browser is used when Email links are clicked on?

Which way do you want it to work. Knowing this would make it a bit easier to explain. Also need to know if you are using Netscape 4x or 6.

Here's what to do if you want NS to be the default. Close Netscape before doing this. In your Netscape\users\xxxx folder (xxxx would be your username) there's a file called prefs.js. Open it using notepad and find the following line.

user_pref("browser.wfe.ignore_def_check", true);

Change the true at the end of the line to false and save the file. If the line isn't there add it using false at the end. Best to just copy and paste the one above so you don't make a mistake. It need to be exactly the same except that you want false instead of true. The next time you open Netscape it should prompt you as to whether or not you want it to be the default browser. Choose yes and leave the box next to the line that says don't ask again unchecked. It won't prompt you again unless IE or some other browser somehow becomes the default. The next time you use IE if you are prompted as to whether or not you want it to be the default choose no and check the box that says don't ask again (or something similar anyway).

If you want IE to be the default and you aren't prompted for it, open IE and click on tools\internet options\programs. Put a checkmark in the box next to the line that says Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser. Close IE and open it again and it will prompt you as to whether or not you want it to be the default. Choose yes. If you're prompted by NS the next time you open it choose no and put a checkmark in the line that says don't ask again. That should take care of it.
