I run IE11 on Win 7. When I start IE, it shows the "waiting on a response from..." message with my correct home page address shown. But, it will not load and times out to give me the message that the page can't be displayed. If I then click the "Home" icon on the Command bar, the home page loads with no problem. The correct home page address is shown in the Internet Options setup, as indicated by it functioning correctly when the Home icon is clicked. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    Alistair

Hi Alistair. If you change the home page to a different website, does IE11 load it on startup without any problem?

In IE11 click Tools< Manage add-ons and disable each add-on one at a time while restarting IE11 in between and see if a particular add-on is the culprit.

I changed the home page to something different and it loaded perfectly on starting IE. I changed it back to the usual home page and it refused to load until I clicked the Home icon. It then loaded perfectly.

I tried disabling every add-on in turn. None of them solved the problem.

Does a different web browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox load that particular home page ok? What is the name of the website that is your current home page?

I've only tried Chrome and it loads it OK. IE also loads it OK at any time after I get the message that the page can't be displayed and I then click the Home button. The only time IE won't load that page is when it first starts up. The home page is nz.yahoo.com.

I tried IE and set nz.yahoo.com and IE opens to Bing. When I click on Home Icon - it opens to nz.yahoo.com
Just thought I would try it to see what happened. I use FF full time so it appears IE does to mine what it does to your Home page. Neil.

If nz.yahoo.com is in fact the set home page, be sure to type the URL in IE Options using https:// and not http://.

If a site requires https and http is used instead, there will be a redirect at the site's server and not all browsers handle that redirect efficiently or the same way.

I am puzzled. After plaguing me for a week, the problem has gone away. I tried everything suggested above except the time-out settings, and the problem was still there on Monday night. Yesterday morning, it had gone, with the home page loading perfectly. It is still OK today. I did nothing to it between Monday night and Tuesday morning. So, I'm still none the wiser about the cause of the problem, but it has fixed itself.

Many thanks to all who offered suggestions. I'll file them away for use if the problem returns.
