Internet Explorer + Google - after search Website chosen shown in German.

My default Home Page is http://www.google.co.uk/.

Using Internet Explorer 11.0 operating under Windows 8.1, after I have made a search for something such as say "WinZip ", I get the search results selection page, I make my choice of WinZip and the Website pages are in German. Likewise, in Yahoo Mail, Some of the adverts are displayed in German, when normally they would be in English. N.B. My Google Language choice is English.

    Help would be much appreciated.

    Thank You.

    NSTR

I would expect that any search result would appear in the native tongue of the place where the website resides. I wouldn't expect to see English just because it's my native tongue.

It's only happened to me a couple of times. If I go searching on multi-national sites, there's usually a selection before the search begins for the display language you want to see. I don't do it very often, usually on travel schedules or tourist sites.

Hi NSTRogers, Have you tried another browser? Try Mozilla Firefox and see if you get the same results. You can always uninstall FF after test. Neil.

Thank you to both fdamp and retiredlearner for your responses.

I am replying to both now.

    1. The problem does not occur with Google Chrome. It does not occur with Google running under FireFox.

    2. It is my understanding that Websites will be in the language that the people who own them have designed them to be. That may or may not be the language of the place where the website resides.

I do not expect a website to be in English, just because English is my native tongue.

It seems that some kind of default for German or .de had got into my current google set up under IE 11.0.

I should add that I deleted all my browsing history yesterday evening . This has led to my being able to search for WinZip in Google under IE 11.0 and getting to the English Version of the WinZip Website. When it was not working as I would have expected it was going to winzip.de.

It appears that Google is operating as it should though I did get a google.de page appear for no reason when I went back to a previous page. The google.de page had not been part of the forward chain.

I will monitor the situation and let you know of any further occurrences.

If anyone has an idea as to how the problem arose I would be most interested.

Thank you for your help and input, thus far.

    This is interesting:https://www.google.de/?gws_rd=ssl
This German Google site looks the same as your Google.co.uk.
The .de must have come from somewhere. My only thought would be an IE update caused the switch.
I've had no such problems with Firefox and Google as my search engine. It has never altered in 10 years. Neil.
