    Hi All,
My son has a Toshiba Laptop running Win 8.
When he opens IE, it tells him that "the proxy server isn’t respondingâ€
    See Below
And to check the settings at: tools>internet options>Connections.
When I click on LAN Settings, I can see that "use a proxy server" is checked.
If I un-check it, it will not stick. I close it and when I open it again it is checked again.
If I click on advanced, I can see the settings.
It shows at HTTP: 127.0.0.1 and port 8800.
I have tried to delete the numbers, I then get a popup telling me that the setting is not valid and if I want to disable the proxy connection. I click on yes, but when I reopen it, the numbers are back.
    Any idea what to do?
    Thanks
    Sven

Have you shut the Modem or Modem/Router down for about 15 seconds and then turn them back on? Try shutting everything down. Then do the Modem first and let it settle down for a minute. Then do your PC next. Try that.

If that don't work, try below.

    a) Under "Tools" in the browser tool bar select "Internet Options ".

    b) In the "Internet Options" Window that pops up, click the "Connections" tab at the top.

    c) Click "LAN Settings" near the bottom of the "Connections" section.

    d) If the "Proxy server" checkbox is marked with a check, click it to deselect/uncheck it.

    e) Click "Ok" to close the "Local Area Network (LAN) Settings" window.

    f) Click "Ok" to close the "Internet Options" Window.

    MrBill,
    Thanks for your answer.
I have done all of what you suggested, no improvement.
I also searched with Google and came across an article saying to open regedit and search for < loopback > and delete all references that also say proxy. I have done that and then you have to reboot and then you right-click on the E of Explorer, then right-click on internet explorer and run as administrator and then change the setting in lan setting.
    that did the trick.
    I will mark this closed.

    Thanks Again
    Sven
