I'm not sure if this is an IE problem but I cannot access:

    http://links2dent.woelmuis.nl/

from either of our laptops. This one uses Windows 7 and my wife's has XP Professional SP2.

To test from elsewhere I've asked my brother in North Carolina to try it and he has no problem.

Could it be my ISP which is Movistar in Spain?

Hi lordrayne. It most definitely could be your ISP causing the problem. I can access the website without any problems using IE9.

You might want to try connecting to a different network if possible and testing the issue using a different network other than your ISP.

    Thanks Evan Omo,
I suspected as much and that's why I asked my brother to test it from NC.

Your reply confirms that it is accessible from elsewhere.

Now I need to find out from my Spanish ISP why I cannot access it. Problem is I'm new to Spain and don't speak Spanish yet.

I'm tempted to upgrade to IE9 from IE8 but I understand that there are still problems with IE9 so I'm a bit wary of taking that step as it might cause more problems rather than alleviate the existing one.

This is the ONLY website I cannot access and I need it for my genealogical research.

There have been no problems with IE 9 for a looooong time. I have used it since day one and didn't really see that many complaints about it. Most of the complaints were that they didn't like the looks of it. It can be set up to look almost exactly like IE 8.

    Thank you Mr Bill,

Once I've rid myself of this problem, I will definately try IE9 - but on one of the back-up laptops first.

You could also download Mozilla FF and if you had a problem like you have with a web site. You could use it and see if it was IE or something else.

Thanks for that also but the webmaster of the site I'm trying to access recommends IE over FF as some aspects of the website don't respond on FF.

That may be true. I just went to it with FF and got there. That would at least let you know if it was IE or your ISP or something else.

Going back to IE 8, it is not as secure as IE 9 is. I know it is only available for Vista and Win 7.

I have no idea what version of Windows you are running since you don't have your System Specs filled out. Sure helps us a lot knowing this. Go to User CP near the top left corner of the boards and fill it out. Be sure to SAVE it afterwards. You can look at mine or Evan's and get an idea of how we have ours done. Just click on My System under our names and look at them.

Downloaded and ran FF - same result "The server connection was reset ".

Sorry about the system specs; I had entered them a long time ago but hadn't activated the "thread" bit to shew it. I did actually mention in the initial post that I had tried this website with both W7 & XP.

I'm now going to ask someone close-by (in Estepona, Spain) with Movistar and someone with a different ISP and see what the result is. It's just 06:30 here so I shall have to wait a bit until a civilised hour. Depending on that outcome, depends what I say to Movistar.

Thank you for your help so far.

You are quite welcome. At least if you had FF, you could see if you get there or not. Even if you can't do everything or anything at all. It would let you know if it was your PC or your ISP blocking the site. Or the site blocking your ISP. Good luck with your ventures. It is midnight 30 here in the US where I am at.

My ISP is available 24/7/365 and this time of night, they are not usually busy and they will work with you a little more as they don't have to rush to get to the next customer.

Good to know. Yeah talk to Movistar and hopefully they will be able to give you an explanation on what is going on with you being unable to access that website.

Like Bill, I've also been using IE9 for a long time now and haven't had any issues with accessing websites. Plus its faster and more secure than IE8.

    Thanks Evan,
As I told Bill, I'd rather get this problem sorted first before I possibly add to it by using an application I don't know my way around.

Thanks for your help - I should have enough info by Monday to quiz Movistar - they only read e-mails between 10:00 & 16:00 Monday to Friday! Super service.
