I am using Win7/Pro/64. When I shut down IE9, I get an error message "Internet explorer has stopped working... ". I realise it has as I closed it myself. This is happening on a regular basis for the last 2 weeks. Thinking back, I can't think of anything I did 2 weeks ago to IE9 other than install the usual scheduled Windows updates. Would be grateful for any thoughts you might have.

Hi trkrs2, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Try starting Internet Explorer 9 with no add-ons and see if that resolves the problem. To start IE9 with no add-ons click Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).
If that doesn't work then try Performing a Reset of Internet Explorer Settings.

Also please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Note: A common error is to forget to show your System Details in your profile:

Make sure to do the above when entering your System Details, thanks.

I'll try a quick reply again, having one of them "fat finger days ". I opened and closed IE9 without add-ons and the error message did not appear. I gather that means that the problem is in one of the installed add-ons, but which one? Guess I'll use trial and error to shut them down one by one to see where the culprit is. Thanks for your advice and as suggested, I have updated my system specs.

Cool. Since the error message didn't appear when you loaded IE9 with no add-ons then you will have to disable each add-on one at a time until you find the culprit thats causing the browser to crash on shut down.

Thank you for the info, I had searched the site for how to mark the thread resolved but couldn't find how to do it. I have just started to restart disabling each add-on one by one and so far haven't found the culprit. I will continue on checking and when I find it will post another thread and advise the culprit. The error message is still occuring.

Please don't do that - post a reply in this thread.

OK, same thread. got it:) After disabling individual add-ons to find the culprit to seemingly no effect, I decided to reset the IE settings using Microsoft Fixit50195.msi. That done, and enabling only a few add-ons, it seems to be working well now. No more error messages and boy-o-boy does it seem to open quicker now. I think we have solved the problem now thanks to your help.
