when i got this PC i was under the impression that with SP1 you can have 8GB of RAM on Vasta 32bit.

I went back to the How much memory (RAM) do you have installed? looking for info concerning maximum RAM i can have on 32bit system, and I notice that its 4GB.

so now im wondering should I have gotten XP 64 instead of Vista?
and how come My system display's 8GB if its only 32bit?

ALL 32bit OS's have the 4 gig limit.

Displaying 8 gigs and access/using 8gigs are two different things. SP1 fixed the display issue part....

Are you currently maxing out and using all 4 gigs most of the day?

No I am not, but the only reason I got Vista was for the extra RAM, and now i notice that was fail. (waste of money on extra RAM plus extra waste on Vista :()

    thx for your explanation Steve

Braindead, on a related note, I added 4GB to the 4GB of RAM I already had for a total of 8GB RAM to test out the Windows 7 64-bit Release Candidate. Even under Win7 64-bit, the extra 4GB was a waste of money. Luckily it was dirt-cheap.

The shop i got my PC from said he would trade me a 64 bit Vista (if he can validate the one i have on the next PC he sells)

my comment about wasted money is because I wanted to get XP (which still sells for 165 USD over here) and the reason why i got Vista (which cost me 275 USD) was because I was led to believe with SP1 Vista would actually use the extra RAM not only recognize it.

But i still think that the extra 225 USD would have been better spent on an I7 Extreme Chip instead.

Now that's a real waste of money :)

    I'm running the el-cheapo 920 @ 3.05GHz, nearly the same benchmarks as the 950 with at least a 50% saving in $$$

I have to agree with you on this one Arie, what i meant to say was, the extra money would have been less of a waste on a faster processor since the system would actually use it as opposed to extra RAM it could see but not use and a more expensive OS that i didn't really want.
but i did the swap today!!!

Edit: my CPU cost a bit under 200, I7 was around 400 lol
