Can i swap identical motherboards and have windows still work?

Okay, i have an Dell XPS 410 and i was wondering if i could simply buy a motherboard off ebay off an identical xps 410 that has a larger processer such as the Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q6600. My current setup has a core 2 duo at 2.4ghz

First of all can i just swap the motherboards? would windows still work? (i have xp home edition)

And is there a large difference between the 2.4ghz dual core and the 2.4ghz quad core? is it worth say spending 70-80$?

Windows should still work there may be some delay initally as it configures new hardware. or you may need to update some drivers.
I personaly dont think it is worth upgrading to quad core when using XP. I dont think XP fully uses the quad core processor.
Just my opinion.

How to replace the motherboard on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000

Just to be clear, you are not talking about identical motherboards here, but rather different ones.
