    Hello everyone,

    For my college practicals i want to have this following data. I don't know how to find this data.

    Hard Disk Specifications :
    No. of random access operations/sec
    No. of sequential access operations/sec
    Power consumption
    i) desktop
    ii)laptops
    Transfer Rate

    You could start with SIW and then google the hardware it finds for the other specifications you need.

    Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me what is the difference between random operations in Hard disk and sequential access operations.

    During day to day use files caan become fragmented, part of a file may in one area of the drive whilst other parts are in other areas, this causes the heads to jump around collecting all the different pieces (random access).

    A recently defragmented drive will have most of the files in one area so the heads can step along from e.g. sectors 255,256,257...1024,1025 etc (sequential access)

    Because the heads don't jump around as much sequential access is quicker (hence the reason for defragmenting).

    Hope this helps.

    EDIT: The above is a simplified explanation and due to other processes requiring HD access it's unlikely you'll get truly sequential access in day to day operations. Base your choice of HD by random access speeds rather than sequential, though the correlation between the two should be similar.
