I have reread the thread and the information in the link and I am having a lot of trouble understanding exactly what the problem is now. It seems to be that one of your USB memory drives cannot be initialised, but you talk about two other(?) USB drives and an IDE HDD, although they don't seem to have problems any more.
I couldn't post an answer because I was not sure what the problem is now.
You are quite welcome to post another thread. Why don't you just make up a new one relating to the problem as it is now. I could re-open the old thread, but I think other people would find it difficult sifting through that information like I did and would not be able to post a suggestion either.
If you make up a new thread, add information about the system. I see from the link that you have a HP computer, but cannot get Vista drivers. (You upgraded from Windows XP?)
Post back here if you want me to open the old thread, but you will probably find that I will post in it asking you exactly what the problem is now
"It seems to be that one of your USB memory drives cannot be initialised, but you talk about two other(?) USB drives and an IDE HDD, although they don't seem to have problems any more."
I am not talking about any USB pen drive.
Also not about external standalon usb hard drive.
I have connected my IDE hard drive outside the computer using the "Serbnet Kit". Because my new dell ( E520 ) only have SATA connector inside.
I just want to try to use my old IDE HD to store some data.
( I can buy new SATA, but since i am in to this problem, I can't drop it without trying to use various option to solve it )
I'm hooking up an IDE drive. I'm using one of those external USB kits ( Sebernet USB-DSC5 )- it's a usb to IDE cable and a power supply for the drive.
It works great in XP, shows right up in 'my computer' and I got some files off it. It's formatted NTFS and worked in this same PC as an internal drive.
Vista (my vista 32 Desktop) loads up some drivers and tells me it's ready to use a 'usb mass storage device' but it does not show up in 'my computer'.
It shows up in device manager under disk drives, usb drive and is 'working correctly and it shows up in 'computer management' where it tells me the drive has not been 'initialized' but it can't initialize it. The message says "the device is not ready"
How i will be able to see and use it to transfer data using either 'my computer' OR 'window explorer'.
I now see the problem clearly.
Something that still puzzles me is this part

Was that using Windows XP?
Check the jumper settings on the drive. They will probably only work set as Master.
I think you need to remove and remake the partition/s on the drive. If you do that, all the data will be lost, so if you needed the data, connect the drive to a computer that "sees" it and back the data up and put it back on after repartitioning and reformatting the drive.
To remove the partition/s, in Disk Management, right-click on the drive/partition and select Delete Partition. When you make the new partition, choose to make it a Primary partition, not a logical or extended partition.
Windows XP can have trouble recognizing partitions made by Vista. If you want the drive to easily recognized by Windows XP or maybe Windows 2000, remove and remake the partition under Windows XP. Another way would be to get any drive setup utilities from the hard disk drive manufacturer's website and use those to remake the partition (for example, Seagate and Maxtor drives use the utility DiscWizard).
[I will adjust the title of this thread, your description of the problem makes it a lot clearer. People can use the original thread as a reference if they like.]
2. I have low level formated the IDE in question by connecting in my XP desktop as primary. ( so i don't think i need any disk utility/drive setup utility software to partition or format ) Befor formating i even use FDISK to clear MBR. It formated very well.
3. Than i check the same using that Serbnet kit outside on the same XP desktop. My XP desktop recognize it very well.
4. When i try the same HD on my Vista desktop. i can not access it. As i have describe it in detail in my original post.

Reason: minor mistake

What utility did you use to low-level format? Windows does not have the ability to low-level (also known as Zero) format. FDISK is a Windows 95/98 program. Do you mean FIXMBR? Using FIXMBR is probably good to try, but it won't reset the partition information.
You don't say you actually removed/deleted the partition on the drive. That's what I reckon you need to do.
If I have problems with a drive using the usual methods, I remake the partitions and reformat using the HDD manufacturer's setup utilities.

PS When you are making the partitions and the drive is a separate HDD from the Windows HDD, you will be offered to make the drive a logical/extended partition of the "master" HDD. You need to make it a primary partition.
