Sound Problem

I've very recently installed Windows XP Professional onto my computer and i've been having problems with my sound, i get the error message:

"0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000"

And also when I go into the 'Sounds and audio devices' in the control panel all the options in the 'Sound' 'Audio' and 'Voice' tabs are greyed out.

Can anyone help me?

Do you have any unknown devices or anything with an ! listed in device manager (click the + if required).

Can you give the model of your computer motherboard (use CPU-Z if required, selecting the Mainboard tab)

To access device manager Start->Run and type

Code:
devmgmt.msc
in the run box.

Goto the ACER support website

Set your location under BIOS, Drivers etc

Follow the prompts and download sound and chipset drivers for your Model Laptop with Xp

Let me know how you get on.
