Who's right, Intel or Gigabyte?

Hello all!

I'm trying to get to grips with Intel chipsets, motherboards and memory support but all that I have got is a headache. Maybe someone can shed some light or at least ... ... share my headache:

My understanding of this diagram of the P45 chipset is that the FSB is 10.6 GB/s (1333 MHz) and the memory controller supports PC2-6400 (DDR2-800 MHz) and PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066 MHz), right?

According to the GA-EP45-DS3 specifications the FSB is 1600/1333/1066/800 MHz and DDR2 1333+/1066/800/667 MHz memory modules are supported. There's no note about overclocking, neither for the FSB nor for the memory modules.

Am I right in understanding that fitting a processor with a FSB of 1333 MHz and PC2-6400 modules in the GA-EP45-DS3 is the "rated" level and everything "above" is overclocking?

According to the GA-EP45T-DS3 specifications the supported FSB is 1600/1333/1066/800 MHz and DDR3 1900 (O.C.)/1600/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules are supported. In this case, DDR3-1900 is marked as O.C.

Am I right in understanding that fitting a processor with a FSB of 1333 MHz and PC3-8500 modules in the GA-EP45T-DS3 is the "rated" level and everything "above" is overclocking?

Or ... ... is it possible that Gigabyte, in error, have mixed in data for the X48 chipset for which both the FSB and memory controller is at 12.8 GB/s (1600 MHz)?

Thanks for your time,
Christer

Bottom line = Gigabyte does not make Intel CPUs. Who to believe? I'd go w/ the manufacturer!

Tony,
I agree but after googling and reading a bit more, I believe that the Intel Extreme Memory Profile is "automated overclocking to pre-defined values" versus the JEDEC standard, just like the nVidia Enhanced Performance Profiles.

There's a lot more to read ... ... !
